Just curious to know how fast labour was with y'all who have had more than one. Also if anyone out there was early with first was anyone early with second.
Curious as I was early and this time worrid about who is going to look after DD1 who is 18 months old. We live far away from family so only have support 5 days before I am due. Only know a hand full of people so very anxious....
Would be good to know what has happened to other people in my situation.

Hi, I had DS1 at 39 weeks after a 2 day labour. once they decided to break my waters it took 6 hours.

I had DS2 at 38+3 and contractions started at 7.15, they broke my waters at 1045 DS was born at 1110, too quick really, both me and DS2 were in shock, but certainly alot better than the first!

Tutter · 27/09/2008 21:19

acc to myu motes, labour with ds2 was 1hr 15mins

ds1 was 39+4
ds2 39+3

Tutter · 27/09/2008 21:19

myu motes is not a revered african gynae, btw

should have read 'my notes'

About 16 hours from start (ie odd period-pain-type whinge) to delivery, second time around - about half the length of the first. Delivery was MUCH quicker (about 2 mins as opposed to two hours!)

Was three days early with both.

lulumama · 27/09/2008 21:24

@ tutter

DS was induced at 39 + 1 , 12 hours but ended in a c.section

DD born spontanouesly at 40 weeks, 15 hours latent stage, 3 hours 15 minutes established labour, 30 minutes of which was pushing.

MrsWeasley · 27/09/2008 21:25

Baby1 2 days early 36 hour labour
Baby2 2 days early 20 hour labour
Baby3 10 days late 20 hour labour
Baby4 late again and 15 hours labour

noonki · 27/09/2008 21:32

DS1 - 10 days early (6 hours)

DS2 - 3 hours late (!) ( 7 hours) slightly harder imo but think that was because I expected first labour to be hell and it wasn't so was expecting second to be easy !

noonki · 27/09/2008 21:34

Also, we have no family close by, my childminder (who I love) had him for the night (he was 19 months) andhe was very happy and loved it.

We also had two friends on standby, I had a homebirth and spent ages worrying about who would be around but it all worked out in the end!

whitechocchip · 27/09/2008 21:45

DS was a day early and 3hour labour.

DD was 8 days later and 50min labour.

Luckly DS was looked after by family but had everyone on standby and found everyone was willing to have DS as it meant they could come and see DD before everyone else.

PortAndLemon · 27/09/2008 21:46

DS - born at 39+5 after 40 hour labour and c-section
DD - born at 39+5 after 5 hour 20 minute labour, VBAC

DH nearly missed DD's birth waiting for MIL to arrive to look after DS.

berolina · 27/09/2008 21:48

ds1 - 38+0 - days and days

ds2 - 40+8 - couple of hours, but only about an hour from actually realising I was probably in Proper Labour and taking the bus to the hospital. I was 9cm on arrival.

Lizzylou · 27/09/2008 21:49

DS1 40+6, 48 hours
DS2 39+5 17 hours

Heated · 27/09/2008 21:49

DC1 40+6 days 9hrs
DC2 41+3 days (induced) 5hrs (with epi to slow things down)

tingting · 27/09/2008 21:51

dc2 born at 36+3 labour 2hrs 17 mins, no contractions until waters broke and i was 7cm dilated. it was very quick. no time for pain relief.

tingting · 27/09/2008 22:01

another one dead

im seriously considering yet another name change

bateeha24 · 28/09/2008 22:39

well ds 41 weeks 3 1/2 hours
dd 38 weeks (induced) 6hrs and 14 min
pregnant with 3rd 36+4 and hoping for a quicker 1

IdrisTheDragon · 28/09/2008 22:44

DS born at 38+3 - about 20 hours from start to finish (waters broke) - about 8 hours from painful contractions starting

DD born at 40+4 - about 6.5 hours from start (of painful contractions) to finish.

Both births had about 2 hours of me failing to push effectively, which I blaim on the diamorphine.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 28/09/2008 22:48

DS1 -born due date 38 hour labour - 6 hour established.
DS2 - born due date 4 hour labour - 1 hour established.

Charlee · 28/09/2008 22:50

DS1 - induced on due date, labour 14hrs (horribly painfull with every drug going)

DS2 - 2 week early, labour easy peasy 4hrs (although i didn't realise i was in labour untill i was 8cm dilated!) no pain relief.

funnypeculiar · 28/09/2008 22:52

ds - born at 36 weeks
dd - 2 days late
Fwiw, you have a 1 in 10 chance of being early. If you've already had one early, that increases your chance to 2 in 10 (or 1 in 5) - ie you're still more likely NOT to be early.

My second labour was fast - from feeling I was defn in labour to baby in less than 3 hours - also much easier!

pooka · 28/09/2008 22:58

DD born on due date: 40 weeks. Labour 7.5 hours officially, though personally I feel that that is underestimating the duration . Had about 48 hours before reaching magical 4cm of contracting sporadically and generally (foolishly) thinking that was about to happen. 6 pounds 10 oz. Pushed for 45mins. Gas and air, pethidine, epidural.

DS 41 weeks (7 days late). Labour about 2hrs 45mins from first noticeable and then regular not too painful contractions. He was nearly 8 pounds. Pushed for 30mins. Gas and air.

pooka · 28/09/2008 23:01

Arrived at hospital 10cm dilated and ready to push. Was meant to have homebirth but no midwives.
