I went to the doctors today complaining of pains in my stomach. Cramping mostly but sometimes i find it hard to breath as it's so painful. Doctor done the routine pregnancy test(2 actually) and said that it looks like i am pregnant! The bad news is that she's worried that it may be ectopic. I'm scared(of course) and i don't know anyone that has went through this so i don't know what to expect. Has anyone else had painful stomach pains without it being ectopic and what tests will they do(and how soon)to find out if it is? I'm back to the doctors tomorrow for a blood test as the lines on the tests were so faint but i have no idea where it will go from there. I would really appreciate advice on this. Thanks

An ectopic is any pregnancy that is not in the uterus, so if they don't spot anything in the uterus and you are far enough along the assumption is often that you have had an ectopic. AFAIK, it's not that unusual for them not to be able to see the ectopic on the scan. Both of mine were identified, but apparently that is not that common. My last one was right at the end of my tube so on the scan it appeared to be next to the ovary - it was also stuck to the ovary a little when they did the surgery. Your mass might have been a tubal pregnancy like mine, I guess.

Are you sure you need to have a gap before trying again? The general advice seems to be to wait after treatment for ectopic (whether surgical or medical) but I don't know whether the doctors recommend a gap if your ectopic is self-resolving. Personally I probably would just go for it, but I am not an expert so you should definitely speak to your doctor tomorrow.

I know what you mean about needing to get pregnant again in order to heal from this experience. I had my first ectopic in March and have been pregnant twice since (1 early miscarriage and another ectopic). It's so frustrating, but I know it could well just be terrible luck and the next one might well be ok. I hope you get a quick BFP and that your next pregnancy is uneventful.
Take care, and goog luck tomorrow.

Or good luck, even!

Many Thanks!

I do really want to just go for it! But i'd read some info saying you should wait, but it mainly states for when youv'e had treatment and for the mental stuff, which will be dealt with if I get pregnant again! I just dont know if by not waiting it could cause me to have another one. Im thinking probably my second cycle, just so im totaly clear.I will try and get some answers tommrow when I have my follow up appointment!

Hope things work out for you too!! XX

Hi Ellsbellzie how awful for you - I hope you're feeling a little better today. A word of encouragement: I had an ectopic 2 years ago and had to have a tube removed. They advised I was 50% less fertile but that one ovary would be working harder to compensate and that my fertility should go up to 75%. I got pregnant with my 3rd baby no trouble at all and am now at my due date. Good luck and keep well x

Threekidsareyoumad - you have cheered me up no end. Thanks!

(Out of interest, how long did you wait before trying again?)

Threekidsareyoumad- Many Txs!
Im not feeling to bad today, im back at work tommrow, I came out of hospital on Friday and as I didnt have any treatment I think its time I should go back, ive been off a week now. I just hope im ok when I get there, im dreading seeing people and there reactions I think it will set me off. I decided im going to wait for my next cycle to try, ive just finished bleeding for 4 days, im not sure if it was a period or the ectopic as it was the same amount of time I usually bleed for, I think by my next cycle everything should be ok, I just hope they are regular and I dont have to wait months!x

The Unituber-Hope everythings going ok!x
