Bleeding at 12 weeks - worried

dinny · 26/08/2008 15:33

Just had some medium bleeding, am 12 weeks pg today - phoned EPU at hospital and they said to see if it settles overnight and to call them in morning. Is this right?

Am sure at the hospital where I had my previous 2 children they said to come in for scan straightaway (though I never had bleeding with either pg before so am not 100% sure)

really really worried - can it ever be something other than a mc?

ps have nuchal scan booked in this Thursday anyway

Definitely not inevitable at all. My friend had one DD, no bleeding and then, like me, a large amount of bleeding at 14 weeks in her 2nd pregnancy. Her DD2 is now 16 months

Honestly, don't give up until you have the scan but please try and get seen tomorrow if you can. I don't think the anxiety does anyone any good

MKG · 26/08/2008 20:31

Dinny--When preg with ds2 I had a blood clot. Although I never bled, it is an internal bleed that can result in bleeding that doesn't cause any harm to the baby.

Hope for the best.

Hello Dinny,
Sorry to hear your having such a worrying time.
I'm nearly 19 weeks pg and had spotting from wk 5 and a few weeks ago i had a massive hemmorage where it was like somebody had turned a tap on-this continued for 20 ish mins and i was passing huge clots (some the size of your palm).DH called ambulance and they took me in.They couldn't offer me a scan as they dept was shut but the consultant who examined me found a heartbeat.
I went on to have another 4 hemorages - one of which was as bad as the first and the other 3 not so large clots.
Each time the baby has been found to be fine and unaware of all the stress and worry-thank God.
They have found out that i have a low lying placenta and that is what's causing the bleeds.
I know exactly how your feeling and you are probably checking your knicker every 5 mins in case there is more blood. But, there really may be another reason other than mc.
Thinking of you x

CatIsSleepy · 26/08/2008 20:52

ah dinny
hang in there
see what the morning brings
mc is not inevitable as so many have said

Hi Dinny,

Glad you've had a good night. Take it easy today.

Thinking of you.

CatIsSleepy · 27/08/2008 09:26

hey dinny
no cramps, and nausea is good!
what are you going to do? wait til thurs for your scan?

dinny · 27/08/2008 09:34

hello

yes, I think I will wait till tomorrow - it's not as if anything can be done today, iykwim, other than confirm the baby is ok or not, and that can be done tomorrow morning

my nausea was AWFUl last night and first thing this morning, actually, worse than ever

my mum was wondering if it could perhaps be the placenta anchoring in

am supposed to be working a late tomorrow night - should I phone and say I won't be in? does it warrant staying off work? a bleed, I mean - although the situation may be different tomorrow anyway I suppose

OP posts:
CatIsSleepy · 27/08/2008 09:39

well am glad your mum is being a bit less pessimistic!

re work- is it a strenuous job, or do you get a chance to sit down and take it a bit easy? if you're feeling ok (apart from nausea!) then it will probably be ok -but maybe it's best to chat to your midwife and see what she thinks

dinny · 27/08/2008 09:41

yeah, she is only pessimistic as she has had mc herself...

work isn't physical but it is a long commute (1.5 hrs) and a late shift (till midnight) and very stressful (live TV) - could cope but for the stress bit

OP posts:
CatIsSleepy · 27/08/2008 09:43

bimey that's a commute and a half!
sounds like you could probably do without it...
can you wait til you've had your scan and see how you feel or do you have to let them know now?

dinny · 27/08/2008 09:45

think I will phone today and explain the situ and take tomorrow off

OP posts:
CatIsSleepy · 27/08/2008 09:47

well that sounds sensible-a night of stress sounds like the last thing you need

very best of luck with your scan tomorrow and take it easy in the meantime!

right, must nip off and do a spot of work myself...(boo)

calsworld · 27/08/2008 10:02

Hi dinny, think we're on the same thead (due in March?), I started bleeding yesterday and MW said this morning that I shouldn't go back to work till 48 hrs after the bleed has stopped...

I don't feel very optimistic about my situation, as have very sore tummy, blood and little clots. (Sorry if TMI).

LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2008 10:05

dinny, glad things are better this morning, and the nausea is a good thing. I would definately stay off work for a day or two. Your health and that of your baby are definately more important

Keeping it all crossed for you.

dinny · 27/08/2008 10:26

Hi Calsworld, so sorry to hear this - yes, am on the March thread. Really hoping things work out for you. Are you having a scan?

LackaDAISYcal, speaking of nausea I did just wonder if am having massive hormone surge to do with placenta or something - also had banging headache, always do when pg nausea really strong

dreading scan tomorrow, but at least we are forewarned, I suppose

selfishly, I feel nearly as distressed about the thought of hospital/operation etc as I do about potential mc

OP posts:
dinny · 27/08/2008 11:14

Calsworld - do you have other pg symptoms still?

OP posts:
Playingthe9monthwait · 27/08/2008 11:58

Dinny just wanted to say I'm thinking of you, we are also on the same March thread, so although I have nothing constructive to add I couldn't ignore your thread. Will be hoping everything is alright with your scan tomorrow and that you get no more bleeding.

dinny · 27/08/2008 11:59

thanks so much - will come and post over there, actually Dinny x
