How bad does heartburn have to be before GP will prescribe something?

I am almost 29 weeks and my heartburn is awful. I hardly slept last night and was miserable all day today. My appetite is gone and it has me in a really bad mood. I am taking Gaviscon advance tablets and drinking peppermint tea but it's not helping.

Hi, I had an appointment with the MW today and mentioned that I had some heartburn, she just said ok and passed my details onto the GP. Told me to pick up a prescription for Gaviscon from docs reception tomorrow.

Second what Liege and Lief said - please make sure that it is heartburn and not epigastric pain which is a symptom of pre-eclampsia .

I had no other symptoms of preeclampsia until I was in hospital and in the later stages of the illness - it literally came on within hours (although with hindsight was building up for a few days beforehand but I put it down to usual pregnancy related problems)

Sure all is okay but always better to be safe than sorry - I took L&L's advice in December and it saved mine nad my DD lives!

Def worth asking your GP/MW to take some bloods and urine sample to check for protein.

(hi Liege and Lief )

I forgot to mention my heartburn to the MW at one appt, so went to reception and asked if I needed to see the doc. She made a note and said ring tomorrow to see if there is a prescription. I ran, there was. No need to even see my doc

I have a hernia and usually take nexium for bad hb but had to stop it when I was pregnant. It killed me when I was pregnant and was also downing about 3 large bottles of gaviscon a week. They will give you zantac but I wasn't happy taking tablets and only took them once or twice.
I just tried to avoid/reduce the food I know sets it off - tomatoes, citrus, caffeine, mature cheese, vinegar, bacon, bread

When pg with al of mine I had a weekly prescription for 2 litres of gaviscon, whichI slugged from the bottle.

GP will be cool with it - its such a common side effect of being pg!

at the slugging weegie. I did the same and kept a bottle within arm's reach at all times
