Booking in appointment - should DH come?

I have my booking in appointent at 8+4 at the hospital wher (all be well) I will give birth. I was sondering if DH should come with me. It's mid-week so he would have to take a few hours off work (this is possible as he owns the company!) but I'm wondering if it's necessary.

Part of me thinks he'll just be bored and woudl be better at the office, the other part of me thinks this might make it seem more real to him (it has NOT sunk in yet!) and we can get a sense of the hospital together.

To be honest, I probably wouldn't bother, and get him to come along to the scans instead. Then it will REALLY sink in! But if he wants to, it's nice.... dh came to 1st appt for pg#1, but by the time pg #2 came along, he didn't bother....

dEpends on how involved he wants to be. My dh just came to the scans. That if anything makes it seem real!

Personally I don't think it's necessary unless he wants too. All they'll do is weigh you, height, test blood pressure, ask about family medical history and give you a load of stuff to take away and read. But if you think it might make it more real then go for it. They won't listen for babies HB at that stage so it's really just paperwork.

(And lucky you getting booking in appt so early, I wasn't booked in the 2nd time until 15 weeks, despite early referral from gp....)

I went on my own. It really only consists of a load of paperwork and meeting the midwife. She'll give you blood forms for your antenatal blood tests, calculate your due date and explain how often she'll see you, who to phone for advice etc.

I think you're right both ways, he probably would be bored but it may also help it to sink in. Having said that, it's not long til your 12 week scan and that'll definitely make it sink in!

It's really down to your (and his) preference.

I always drag him along lol! They ask for a lot of medical history on both sides so he is more likely to know about his side and maybe able to help. Plus it's nice to have someone to take along

Dh didn't come to booking in apt, but came to all scan appointments. TBH he didn't need to be at the booking in app.
Didn't sink in for us till first scan!

booking appointments are deeply dull - I would spare him but make sure he comes to the scans.

Thanks ladies...think I will leave it up to him to decide in that case as I don't have a strong feeling on this one.

With ds1 dh didn't come to appointments, but came to one scan. With ds2 he didn't come to any and with this one he'll be left out again. He will be on child patrol at home.

No, not necessary (so long as you have a reasonable idea about his family's health history and know his blood group!). It won't seem more real until the scan. Sitting in a hospital answering questions never made me feel more pregnant at that early stage so doubt it would work for DH either!

My DH didn't come to any of my appts except 12 and 20 week scans with DS1 and 12 week scan with DTs. But I was perfectly happy not to have him there. He did come for the hospital tour though in first pregnancy, so he knew where to go if I was incoherent when in labour!

Neither husband came to either of mine. (2 husbands, 1 child with each). IT's very boring the booking in appt imo

id save his time for later ones - this is just admin, going over history, paperwork.

My DH came to my booking appointment and I think he found it helped make it more real. I found it useful to answer all the questions about his family history etc but they can always be filled in later anyway.

DH was at 2 of my 3 but only because they were done at home on a sunday afternoon.

This time it was done during the week so no he was at work.

If he doesn't come make sure you know his family's medical history (parents really) as they will ask you about it. It isn't really necessary but my dh did come to my first one (not second or third pregnancy booking appts though)

Pate and Pimms, mmmmmmmmmmmm - useful thread, I was wondering if my DP needed to come along to my booking visit once it's sorted.
