Baby still breech at 36 weeks

ive just got back from the hospital. Spoken to the consultant and he said that the baby is still breech. Got another appointment next Friday when ill be 37 weeks (im 36 weeks today) to the Breech clinic to see if they can turn the baby around. I said "Even though i had a e c-section with my DD???" and he said "Yes as it had been done before with other women who had e c-section"...if cant move the baby then it gotta be a elective c-section.

im still bouncing on the ball!

All i know that the hosp will give me an injection and then externally turn the baby round...is that correct??

yes, that's what an ecv is, I had one to try to turn DS at 39+5 (late diagnosis & over christmas) - my experience was pretty bad (v painful and not successful) as it was my first pregnancy and it was quite late on. It's more successful if you've had a baby previously and you're not too far on. Find out how successful the actual person doing it is - people vary even within the same clinic. Make sure you have gas and air.

Bouncing on the ball might not actually be doing you any favours (if I remember correctly), as you may be settling the baby's bum into your pelvis even further. The Spinnging Babies website may help you give you ideas on how to do some positions that might help the baby to turn - i.e. on all fours with your bum in the air.

and apparently scrubbing the floor helps?

Mine turned about 38 weeks...

I spent every night in the graceful position mrsj mentioned, watching telly, which worked for my back-to-back baby.

Not as difficult to turn as breech, I know.

I did Active Birth classes, and the teacher seemed convinced you could turn a breech, too. Don't know if they still exist - but maybe there's a website?

what do they actually do to turn the breech baby round?? will i be fully awake? how long will it take? And will i able to look after my kids after i had it done? (dd and SD)

ok ill lay off the ball now as only been bouncing on it for a week.

i will also look into at a acupuncturists as i do know one actually.

and also i will re-read the spinning babies website again

Last time I was told no ecv as I'd had a previous cs! Does it differ according to area?

Luckily he turned at 38w - am hoping this one will do the same (less than 6 weeks to go now).

it was my midwife that said Wont able to turn the baby as i had e csection but the consultant took me by surprise!

lulumama may know the answer if different areas have different policies??

and its also more of transverse than breech as its head on my left side of my tummy and not up at the top

oh and will it bring on labour.....eek!

the doctor will basically hold your baby in your tummy and push very very hard to make the baby move round - it's not called a turning for nothing!

not long, a few mins maybe, but quite a long time from your initial appointment time as they monitor the baby's heartbeat and your BP too - they monitored me like this for maybe nearly an hour before the turning.

yeah you should be fine, it's just gas and air but you might be pretty tired.

You may be much better off if the baby is transverse, as there's only a need to turn the baby 90 degrees rather than 180 in my case!

there are some threads in which some healthcare professionals say you do NOT have to consent to ECV if you don't want to.

Also did they do a scan to check the placenta's position as well as the baby's?

Ds was breech until 37/38 weeks - there's still time to turn!

My mum only told me recently that I was also breech. Apparently I was turned manually but I turned back again, and then went head down. Good luck

just wanted to say that I had an ECV with my first pregnancy and it was painless and really easy, so it's not always painful or difficult.

the consultant didn't bother with the injection, she said she'd try without first, and he went over without a problem first time. No pain or pain relief. He was quite far into my pelvis, as well, so it was a bit of a surprise.

she was great, she said to let her know if it hurt or if I was uncomfortable and she'd stop straight away, so I was in control of the whole process.

twin 2 was breech during labour the midwife did some magics thingy with her hands and 13 mins later bobs yer aunty -so dont lose hope

iirc, if you have an ECV and the baby turns back, then they don't try again. I could be wrong though.

Oh I forgot to say, make sure your bag is fully packed ready for labour, because if an ECV turns into the baby's heartbeat being worrying, etc, they might keep you in and whip it out a few hours later. Just leave your bag in the boot of the car when you go.

I went into labour (waters broke) about 9 hours later than the ECV so I was SO glad it was 100% ready to go with no faffing about.

yes i did think of the hossy bag too....getting abit nervous now!
