URINE INFECTION

I am 23 weeks pg and have just been told i have a urine infection. midwife was very vague and just said i need anti biotics, she could not tell me how or why i got this infection or how serious it is. Can anyone shed any light and put my mind at ease???

Our babies are put on 4 hourly observation chart to check temperature, heart rate and breathing. Feeding is observed too. If mum has had antibiotics the obs are continued for 24 hours. If not, they are continued for 48 hours. No swabs are sent from the baby or anything else. We used to send gastric asoirate from their stomachs but that was stopped many years ago. The babies are not given antibiotics routinely. HTH.
