20 week scan and finding out the sex?

I have my 20 week scan for my dc4 on monday and am interested to hear from those who chose to find out the sex of their babies. Particularly if the sonographer (sp) got it wrong. We didnot find out the sex of our other children but we are debating it this time just because we have limited space in the house and in a small way it would help us prepare with clothes etc. However ive just got this nagging feeling that they will tell me im having a girl and a little boy will pop out (or vice versa).
So im looking for a straw pole really, has anyone been told one flavour only to get the other?

Nope, told dd was a girl and she was. Although I never quite believed them until she popped out.

didnt find out with ds1 or 2 but found out this time round - is ds3
have had several scans recently and he is definitely a boy

Told boy both times, had boys both times.

The willies were easy to see so had no doubts

This time have been told girl and a bit more dubious, but have another scan in a few weeks so will confirm it then.

Nope they were right with both of mine.

Have heard of quite few people who were told one thing and got another though...

we were told that DC's were boys to be honest the pitcure on the screen of a willy and testicles kinda gave it away.. it was very clear.

I loved knowing ahead of time.

I think they can give you a degree of certainty, eg definitely a girl, probably a boy but cord in the way and so on.
If you end up having another scan later on you can get confirmation from a different sonographer

A woman I worked with was told she was having a girl (first baby). She was the organised type and went out and bought everything, pink natch, decorated a 'nursery'...

...Only to be confronted a few months later with baby David . So obv scans are not always foolproof!

I didn't find out last time and won't this time. I reckon that for first few weeks/months gender-specific clothes are not that important, and baby will prob be in with us for a while, so plenty of time to decide about sharing bedrooms etc

We found out this one, our third, is a boy at 20 week scan. It was VERY obvious he was a boy, too, he has big balls and his willy was sticking straight up! But just in case, I asked the sonographer to show me again.

We didn't find out with the girls because it wasn't an option.

I was a bit dubious about trusting sonographer anyway (unfounded i know and i am sure 99% are fab) but the one i had for my 12 week scan mistook my right ovary for my bowel! (when she was supposed to be checking on state of my right ovary) and a friend had another who was really vile to her

SIL2 asked but her baby was moving around so much with legs crossed that they only said "could be a boy, but don't put money on it".

I had a late scan and it was very obviously a boy - but as we've got a mountain of ex-girl clothes he'll just have to cope with a bit of pink!

found out with dd3 at a late scan. by that point dh was very ill, and i wanted to give him a bit more focus. he didnt belive me to start with, until i hit the sales.

found out at 20 week scan and again, its a girl, but will ask them to re-check at next weeks scan, as i really dont belive it myself this time lol.

My thing about being a bit more organised is we already have a girl and 2 boys and lots of friends who have had babies on last couple of years. So basically we live in a three bed terrace stuffed with baby things. If i could get rid of one of the sex of clothes then it would free up some much needed space.
You know when you get that feeling though that as soon as i relax into having a girl and get rid of all the blue stuff i will be presented with my third son!

I understand your dilemma, particularly as I suspect it's more common for them to get it wrong telling you it's a girl than a boy, because boy's bits are so visible (but I might be wrong!)

I've said yes to finding out because I don't want to be hoping for something I don't get - I would love a daughter but already know to expect ds2 as a side result of testing. Much better to be prepared to love a second son than to be disappointed on the day.

i hvae a girl and a boy and found out with both of them at 20 week scan, and it was obvious both times that one was a boy and the other a girl.. got a lovely view of DDs labia !

I didnt realise they could actually see the labia on the scan! I thought it was more a case of absense of anything means it must be a girl!

Our little one showed us who she was going to be - we didn't need to ask. She showed us a bottom view with open legs as a first sighting when we had our 20week scan. She is a flasher and there were 3 very visable lines which denote a girl (they called it her burger!), if she was a boy she would be very under-endowed. We had it checked at 28weeks when we had a 3-d scan, again the 3 clear burger lines and then we saw it in 3d.

My DH didn't want to find out with our first but we had a video of the scan and as I worked for two GP's, I asked them to look at it and they both said he was a boy - and he was! We asked the sonographer what the sex was with our second and she said she was pretty sure it was a girl. I had another scan at about 33 wks because my mum had terminal cancer and we weren't sure if she'd still be here when the baby was born so my midwife organised a special scan for my mum to see the baby and she again said it was a girl - which she was! However, the lady in the next bed to me after I had DD was told hers was a girl, had bought lots of pink and girly things and out pops a little boy!!!

RE lady in bed mext to you .. thats exactly what im worried about! Also though its not just getting rid of the sex of clothes we dont need but i also want to be able to tel my kids and as my 8 year old daughter is desperate for a litle sis after having two litle brothers, she would be really really upset with any mistakes!

I was told DS2 was a girl, but he was very much a boy when he arrived.

Yes reban,it was really lovely of my midwife to arrange a special scan for my mum. I'm told that they can be more certain if they say it's a boy but I still wouldn't put all my faith into it! I already had a DS and he really wanted a brother and when we told him he'd probably have a sister, he kept saying "well it might be a boy!" He loves his sister now though . Good luck with your scan on Monday - hope all goes well!

The sonographer told me at 20wks that she thought it was a girl, but couldn't be sure.

I asked how sure, and whether I should buy pink.

She said "Buy pink, but keep the receipts!"

She was right, it was a girl.

hmmm i just cant decide. To make matters worse my dp cannot get out of work on monday so i will really have to make the final decision when the somographer asks!

There was someone on the July Ante Natal thread who was told the wrong sex .... can't think who it was now though but they had everything for a specific sex and ended up with the oposite.

FWIW, we asked with this baby (DC3) but sonographer couldn't see properly
