Not happy with today's appointment

I had my 20 week midwife appointment today - with a student midwife. He found my baby's heartbeat, but it sounded suspiciously slow and maybe like an adults... or even mine?Then he curled up in embarrassment when I broke down in tears when he asked how I was feeling (feeling very depressed at the moment), and then just realised I didn't get my MATB1 form! ARRRRGGHH!!

Sorry for the rant. Feel ever so much better getting that off my chest.

Surely you shouldn't have an appointment with just a student MW. Was no one supervising him? That is a disgrace and you deserve to see someone who will be able to talk to you about how you are feeling. What kind of a MW is he going to make if he curls up in embarrassment at the sight of a distressed woman? You could ring the community MW office and ask to see someone.

You don't normally get your MATB1 form until 28 weeks IME anyway. But it was pretty unprofessional of your PCT to give you only a student MW -- there should have been a supervisor there.

Shocking!!! Get them rung up and ask to see someone else, I can't belive he wasn't supervised.

Mat B1 is available from 20 weeks, but I did have to ask for mine with my last pregnancy

There was another midwife there for the first 5 minutes, but then she drifted out of the room - also about the time I got upset, actually, after assuring me it was perfectly normal and hormones (despite my pointing out I have a history of depression). To be fair she did come back and said I need to see the gp, or would I prefer to see the psychiatric team. That scared me witless and said no.

thats not good - you need to say something! I saw my midwife to discuss birthing options last week (20 weeks) and asked for my MATB1 form and got it, you should be able to call into your GP practice on the day a midwife works and ask at reception.
