Suddenly unwell at 19 weeks with one high blood pressure reading

I am currently 19+3 weeks pregnant. This morning I felt suddenly unwell. Faint, whooshing in ears and like I was going to be sick. Also very breathless. This all occurred while showering and getting ready for the day. When I sat down after I took my blood pressure and got a reading of 118/115. I assumed this was due to rushing about getting ready. It has now gone down to 117/71 and stayed at this level. Do I still contact triage because of the previous result or do I put it down to rushing about? And has anyone else experienced this?

If something doesn’t feel right then always call triage, it’s what they are there for. Is there a reason you are monitoring your blood pressure?

118/ 115 is a strange reading. Did you check it a couple of times/ both arms? Was the water quite hot?

I have a blood pressure monitor at home as there were a few times that I suddenly felt unwell and thought maybe I had high blood pressure. I never got a high reading before and it was always normal. This is my second pregnancy and I’m finding I feel faint quite often if I stand for a longer than normal or am moving about more. I didn’t have that in my previous pregnancy. I’m not regularly monitoring my blood pressure I’ve only checked when I’ve felt unwell

Yes I did check a few times and both arms. The water wasn’t hot as I’ve been making sure not to have showers and baths too hot

Go to the early pregnancy unit if you have one. Or casualty. Better safe than sorry.

If that was a correct reading you should get advice. Especially if you felt very unwell.

I have alot of faint and dizzy spells standing up or being stood up too long and breathlessness. 1. I'm anaemic. And 2. Being my third pregnancy I'm doing a lot lot more than I have done through previous pregnancies. And I'm fucking exhausted.

Go get checked out. Especially your iron. But also, just best to get checked out if something feels wrong. But imo pregnancy gets harder each time. Rest as much as you can and don't feel guilty for it.

Tell them about feeling faint and breathless. Do you have any headache or blurred vision/flashes or spots?

Autumn02 · 12/09/2026 19:50

I have rang triage who dismissed me. They said I was too hot, got up too fast or needed to eat. Despite me saying I wasn’t too hot and was standing (hadn’t just stood up) and had just eaten. I was basically told pregnancy makes you tired eventhough I wasn’t calling due to tiredness, not helpful at all. I’m going to take it easy and rest. If I get the same symptoms again I will ring up again. I shall also contact midwife and ask for bloods to be checked again as I have previously had my ferritin checked. I feel like I can’t stand for longer than 5 minutes and despite taking it easy even the smallest non strenuous task leads me to feel faint and needing to rest!

118/115 was almost certainly an error, it doesn't really make any sense physiologically.

Maybe but I did check multiple times and on both arms and was accompanied with feeling very faint and breathless. As it went back to normal after half an hour I guess I’ll never know

It can do. It is rare, but it can. OP if you feel unwell you need to be seen.

I’m sure you do know this, @Autumn02 but just in case you don’t, if you have headaches or disturbed vision or any swelling go to the hospital immediately and insist on being seen as a matter of urgency.
