Contractions at almost 34 weeks with closed cervix and breech baby

Hey

has anyone been through anything similar to this I came to triage this morning feeling unwell and in pain to be told after monitoring that I was contracting. After further examination I still have a closed cervix and no waters at the moment but I’ve been kept in over night just incase baby tries to come. I’m 34 weeks on Sunday, has anyone been through anything like this and what was their outcome? Although I know we all labour differently and nothing is identical. I honestly was praying and hoping my baby would turn to the right way in the next 3 weeks but so much seems to be happening and I’m dreading a c section and anxious.

Not exactly the same as my baby isn’t breech but I have been having periods of contractions (separate to Braxton Hicks) since around 30 weeks (now 38 weeks with no appearance from baby). This is my third child and I had similar with my second, although less frequently. Is this your first? I’ve had to stay in hospital a couple of times for monitoring after getting a positive fFN swab. I’ve been told I have an irritable uterus but no concerns whilst my cervix remains closed.

For now, just be reassured that you are in the best place if things do begin to progress. If you are sent home then just make sure you are reassured and confident of when need to contact triage if you experience more contractions. I expect that if baby is breech then they’d rather you come in at any sign, just to be safe.

Thank you so much for your response, This is my 2nd baby my first was induced at 37 weeks due to my waters starting at 36+2.

I had the swab taken but wasn’t told the results so I’m assuming it was negative but I will need to double check this when I see the next midwife. They did say though that they were keeping me in for monitoring and then if things settle I can go home in the morning. I feel guilty on my 4 year old at home but there’s nothing I can do.

i think the fact the baby is breech is the reason why I feel like I needed to hear people’s experiences because I’m literally anxious at the thought of being in a c section awake.

I’m so glad that you have had a positive experience and baby is still safely tucked up in your womb what a journey it’s been. Pregnancy is not easy, Thank you so much.

I had contractions (painful, breathe through them type pain) for hours at a time, every few days from around 35 weeks. My baby wasn't breech but was back to back - there is a popular theory that these contractions are designed to turn the baby. I made an effort to get into the forward lying inversion (?) position during the contractions, and eventually the baby did turn. I don't know if this is the right position for breech, but if you want to try this, look at the spinning babies site for a good position which you feel you could manage during contractions.
My baby did not come early.
I think it is called prodromal labour, that might help you Google it!

Hi OP just to say I’ve had an induction and then the second time was a c section which was so much easier to recover from! Elective c sections are very different experiences to the emergency ones you hear a lot about. Hoping all goes well for you
