TW: chemical pregnancy

Hi everyone

I had a frozen embryo transfer last month and it sadly ended in a chemical pregnancy, we’re completely heartbroken and navigating this loss. 💔

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for when/if we have a second frozen embryo transfer. Was there anything that helped second time around?

Ive been taking the following vitamins already:

  • Folic Acid
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin B12
  • Iron

Sending love to everyone

Hi, so sorry for your loss. Was the cycle medicated or unmedicated? Might be worth trying the opposite this time. I had success with a medicated frozen transfer. Also just to confirm, did they do a blood test to check your progesterone levels prior to the transfer? Re: timing don't be afraid to take a few months to give yourself a break mentally before trying again. It can be a lot. Sending hugs x

Thankyou I’ll try those too! Did you take a proper prenatal vitamin too? I didn’t this first time just had the separate vitamins but wondering if I should try a proper prenatal as I know they’ve got other stuff in too xx

Hello thanks so much for responding, hope all is well with you and so happy your transfer worked ☺️ it was a fully medicated transfer. I was wondering about asking them if a natural cycle would be worth a try.

Yeah they checked my progesterone a couple of days before the transfer and they were good and thankyou we’ve got a follow up appointment in a few weeks to discuss what’s happened and to make a plan I can definitely see how having a break would be beneficial

Fertility acupuncturist here:

These are the best supplements I have come across along with other colleagues and is what we regularly advise:

Ova + Solgar ubiquinol + mercury free fish oil (eye q is good and often on 3 for 2 at Boots)

OR

Ovum + the fish oil

Ovum is pricier but includes slightly better levels of vits and minerals and has COQ10 in it.

If price is a big consideration you can go for Vitabiotics plus fish oil.

the main thing is to avoid anything bought direct from boots or Superdrug vitamin wise (fish oil is ok). You may as well flush them down the loo. The body doesn’t absorb a lot of them.

there are other supplements which can help - reishi is pretty universal but you need to be careful with things like DHEA/ashwaganda etc and only take under advice from a professional.

please also do try acupuncture as soon as you can. Our success rates are pretty amazing. It’s why I became an acupuncturist after successful IVF.

Get your TSH tested plus oestrogen as you may need extra progesterone to balance it if it’s high . They often only check progesterone but if you have oestrogen dominance it can throw off the correct ratio.

Acupuncture! It was an absolute game changer for me. Look for one who specialises in fertility. I honestly can't tell you the difference it made. I went regularly for at least 6 months before the transfer and went pre and post transfer on the day itself. I now have two children one 'frosty' and one natural (who I also put down to the powers of acupuncture! )

Wishing you luck for the rest of your journey x

I’ve heard the ovum supplement recommended a lot but it seems a lot of people have issues with it - me included. Horrendous flushing and hives in face/neck/chest and has happened to a couple of my friends too . Researching seems to bring up that NAC can cause this in anyone with allergies / sensitivities but I just thought I’d mention it as it was really severe for me !

Thankyou so much for the heads up! I do suffer from allergies so I’ll probably find a different prenatal!

Thanks for your reply! I had my TSH tested recently and it was all within range but never had my oestrogen tested, I’ll ask my DR when I have my follow up appointment

thankyou
