Mums, did any of you have gut feelings that pregnancy and children weren’t on the cards for you whilst TTC? My husband and I have been trying for our first for 4 months and last month I had a chemical pregnancy - I long to build our family together and to be lucky enough to go through the trials and tribulations of pregnancy and motherhood but I have a strange feeling that it just won’t happen for me, anybody else felt like this and then it happened, tell me your stories? Wishing and hoping that this next cycle is the one x

Yes, I had this feeling. I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis a few years ago, and had surgery to remove lots of adhesions. I was warned that either the endometriosis or surgery itself could cause damage to my egg reserve and cause difficulties, but I wouldn’t know whether my fertility was affected until we started trying.

I came off the pill in November and fell pregnant in May. There were months when I felt like it was hopeless and I was fast tracked for fertility treatment. We had our first appointment come through and a couple of days later I tested positive. I’m now 16 weeks pregnant and all going well so far.

I know it seems to you like you’ve been trying for ages, but in reality four months isn’t that long and you have lots of time. Try not to worry.

Em3009 · 29/08/2026 19:16

I felt exactly this - we had been trying for around 8 months and I just knew something was wrong…. Turns out I had PCOS, a blocked tube and wasn’t ovulating! We were referred for fertility treatment and days before starting we got our positive 🥹

18 months of trying and now 25 weeks pregnant 🥰

Nobabyyet296 · 29/08/2026 19:18

I’ve been trying for 20 months and had one chemical. Still feel like it won’t happen for me. For what it’s worth you’re very early days and still in the standard 12 months so no reason to think you won’t fall pregnant. Even healthy couples only have a 20% chance each month even if their timing is great. So it’s normal it hasn’t happened yet

MakingLasagne · 29/08/2026 19:22

Took a year first time around, no idea why as I was tracking from day 1. Twelve horrible cycles and then out of nowhere, my wonderful DD. She’s just turned 6.

Periods came back at 9m post partum and tracked my cycle to avoid the most fertile period - conceived DS on his sisters third birthday despite being CD23. He’s 4.5 and a legend.

There’s no rhyme or reason to it a lot of the time but I remember feeling like you after 4 months and I’d have fallen over with shock if you told me in 2 years id have two kids 🤣

Focusispower · 29/08/2026 19:23

It took me six years, three rounds of IVF, three miscarriages, and two spontaneous pregnancies before I had a child. I really did think I’d reached the end of the line but a surprise baby conceived on holiday, with some support to help sustain the pregnancy meant I did finally have a child. Then my second DC i lost at 17 weeks pregnant and then had DS in my 40s, a total surprise and we weren’t even trying as I’d always decided I’d been through enough and would be one and done. So babies happen even for those of us who have had a really rough time.

What would I do if ttc now - quit ultra processed food, make sure I was a healthy weight, take a high quality supplement, inc Vitamin D, do plenty of exercise and yoga especially. Mindfulness too. These things genuinely help.

Starlight7080 · 29/08/2026 19:23

With our first it took 14 months. We had got quite stressed about it all and convinced ourselves it would not happen. Then agreed to stop focusing on it and just try to relax more. Then next month we found out I was pregnant. Same thing with all my pregnancy's it did just take longer.

A lot of fertility experts say that many of their patients are simply not having enough sex. We conceived once we massively increased the number of times we were doing it.

Yes there's a method I read about on here with sex timing- cant remember the name of it but it worked for us! If someone else knows what im talking about please chip in as it was useful information. Also the book 'it starts with the egg' i think helped as I conceived post- miscarriage after starting the recommended supplements..

I don't know that particular method but we had sex every other day from the end of my period and then every day starting 5 days before my predicted ovulation and until the day after ovulation. And literally the first month we did that I got pregnant

Yes, I’ve always had a feeling that I would never be able to have children, even before I started trying. I was proven right when we went through 5 rounds of IVF and a lot of heartache, but we accepted it and moved on. I am now spontaneously pregnant and 16 weeks along. It was a total shock as you can imagine - and I did nothing different, in fact, I was super active, really stressed and super run down!

18 months of trying now 15 weeks pregnant!

Oh I forgot to say - the clear blue ovulation sticks with the smiley face are something I’d highly recommend. Good luck OP.

I had a chemical our first month trying and then fell pregnant 4 months later. I remember feeling worried that it might not happen and actually when taking the test for the successful pregnant was shocked to see a positive as I'd had no symptoms at all and didn't 'feel pregnant'. With my chemical I suspected as my boobs felt much heavier. For the successful month we were on holiday, dtd every day and used preseed

LittleGreenShoots · Yesterday 20:29

Our first pregnancy happened quickly and our second we tried for over a year- frequent sex every two days through my fertile times, husband gave up alcohol, ovulation tests etc- and were just starting fertility tests to see what was wrong when it happened.

In hindsight I was in a miserable work situation which was a lot better with Covid lockdowns. I'm sure the stress I was under was stopping it from happening before. I was pregnant within the first cycle after we'd been sent home without changing anything except less stress and maybe more sleep without the commute!

Yes I had become obsessed with an infertility online chat board from way before we were ttc. I knew everything there was to know about infertility, so when it actually happened to us our doctors were like, how do you know all this?! We started ivf process and then got the miracle positive test just before starting our 1st cycle - something I'd seen a lot in the chat board but never thought would happen to us! We never had another miracle so did ivf for 2nd and 3rd child. I still feel infertile even though we have 3 children, it will always be a part of me. I definitely knew long before that this was a challenge we'd face.

Mackerelfillets · Yesterday 20:42

I always had a feeling that something wasnt right in my late teens and early 20's. Kept putting it out of my mind as I was on the pill. Came off the pill at 29 and nothing happened. Periods didn't return. After appaulingly short and abrupt testing I was told I had already gone through the menopause and I would never conceive. Then I met my husband. We adopted twice. Then out of the blue a couple of years later at 36 i fell pregnant with DD. The diagnosis was wrong, I actually had premature ovarian failure which can still result in pregnancy. 10% can spontaniously ovulate. I was lucky.

DefiantRabbit9 · Yesterday 20:46

It took us a long time to conceive. It was really getting to me, I was extremely depressed even self harming just to function in the world. I actually was going through the investigative process for IVF when we conceived our daughter.

Four months is not a long time though it feels like a century. I know everyone says this but stress and pressure are killers when it comes to TTC. I conceived immediately after telling my boss to go stick his job. That was a huge stress relief right there.

I took NAC, CoQ10, L-arginine, acetyl-L-carnitine, myo-inositol, DHA, as well as a prenatal multivit. I also experimented with shatavari.

My husband took a fertility for men supplement.

Anotherdayofrain · Yesterday 21:20

It took me twenty years!

Allswellthatendswelll · Yesterday 21:50

I felt like this and got almost immediately obsessed with infertility podcasts. DC1 took 10 months (one chemical in the middle). DC2 took 18 months and we did properly get diagnosed with male factor infertility just before I randomly got pregnant.

4 months is nothing and a chemical, although it can be upsetting, is actually a good sign that sperm and egg are there and meeting.

oogumboogum · Yesterday 21:58

I could more or less have written your post back in December - had been trying to conceive since August and nothing was happening and I was starting to lose hope although it hadn’t been a long time at all.

Looking back I’d been quite unwell last summer and I don’t think I fully got over it until I took a proper break over Christmas and New Year, switched off and spent a really chilled fortnight at home.

Conceived in January, currently 8 months pregnant - the only major change for us was that I was feeling a lot better mentally and physically in the new year and I think we’d taken a bit of the pressure off that month so we were both more relaxed.

Rainbowwish26 · Yesterday 23:14

yup! i’ve had ectopics and lost both my tubes. Done one round of IVF and it didn’t work.
Have 3 others in freeze but not great grades so don’t think they will work 😭

merryandbrightdelight · Yesterday 23:37

We were trying for about a year before being referred for IVF due to ‘unexplained infertility’ on my part. DD1 was born in April 2019 and in February 2020 we found out I was pregnant with DD2 completely naturally, and a complete surprise as we weren’t trying and never even thought it would happen naturally! Speak to your GP for some advice, and best of luck.
