iVFtwins26 · 06/06/2026 20:45

Hi is there anyone pregnant with twins due in December this year? We did icsi ivf in March and did a double embryo transfer. Only one took but it has split, they could possibly be mono mono as we can’t see a membrane yet. Iv had 3 scans and have my NHS 12 week scan on Wednesday 10 June.
would be nice to connect with anyone in a similar timeline/situation ☺️

My local hospital is Kidderminster and will have to go Worcester royal for fetal medicine. It’s 30 minutes away. The condition is called exomphalos and Iv googled it nd it’s just very sad ☹️ me too im glad I didn’t have to wait too long i just feel overwhelmed. X

Bless you it’s a lot to take in 😞 I hope you get more clarity tomorrow!! I will be thinking of you xx

Hi thank you for checking on me 🥹
we are in limbo at the moment Because basically I had a scan with fetal medicine the next day and it was such a long detailed scan. It was silent the whole time then she sat me down and said she can’t see anything wrong and everything seems normal. But she said the person who did my scan the day before is a really senior sonographer. But she says if she saw me for the first time she would say everything is ok and she was confused herself. I now have another scan on Thursday with an even more senior sonographer for a 3rd opinion. Trying not to stress about it but the outcome is better than them confirming the exomphalos. Really hoping it was all a mistake by the 1st sonographer. Maybe Because it’s twins maybe things got mixed up.
how are you doing ? X

Oh wow!! What a whirlwind of emotions for you! Fingers crossed you get confirmation on Thursday finally, I would take it as a good sign nothing major was seen on the second scan 🤞 must be so difficult of the up and down of not knowing. Please keep me posted! I’m doing ok had my scan with fetal medicine today and met my consultant as he actually did my scan and the twins now have a membrane which is good. We are being scanned every two weeks from now xx

Yeah it’s very confusing. I was ok up until today I feel anxious. Hoping it’s good news tomorrow. Oh that’s really good to hear must be such a relief knowing there’s a membrane! I feel so much relief seeing their membranes on the screen just knowing they’re safer. I haven’t been told about being scanned every 2 weeks I will ask them tomorrow. But I finally got my glucose test in the morning. Hope everything goes well for you! X

Hi both! I’m having MCDA twins, due date late nov but they’ve said they won’t let me go past 36+6 so will be late October. Will be c section but I’m happy about that, had one with my first and recovery was pretty easy.
I’m under fetal medicine at a London hospital so don’t yet know who “my” consultant is but am having lots of appointments and scans! Two cervix measuring scans so far and one more to go, plus the usual. So I’ve actually seen the twins once a week for the last three weeks and have another appt next week.

Hey! Congratulations 😊 so exciting isn’t it! I’m glad your c section recovery was easy for you that is something that is worrying me a bit as I’ve never had one. I do think it’s so reassuring how often we all get to see our twins x

Hi congratulations on your twins hope everything goes well for you! It’s good that you have a birth plan already! At what week of your pregnancy did they mention the c section or the week they plan for delivery ? X

Hi Nicky I had my scan today and it’s bad news again. I had a different sonography who said she can see a defect there but can’t 100% say it’s the exomphalos and she isn’t sure but that there is something an issue. They are scanning me again tomorrow and I will meet the sonographer I had last week who said everything looks normal. Also the twin with the exomphalos is measuring 7 days behind 😢

I’m so sorry you’ve not had the news you wanted today 😞 it’s so unfair you are stuck in such limbo waiting to know! I do hope you get a clear answers tomorrow. Did they say they were concerned about the growth difference in the twins? X

They mentioned the 36wk deadline at 10 wks private scan - they were confident it was MCDA so said NHS policy is 36wks. And as they’re sharing a placenta I don’t think induction for a vaginal birth is necessarily an option, even if I wanted to try that (I definitely don’t!) At my sonographer appt last week (16wks) she added the “+6” detail - I guess every day helps. It’s not booked in yet though.

Sorry, got a bit wrong - apparently vaginal birth is possible if they’re facing the right way etc. Still wouldn’t fancy an induction that early, personally.

i was told I could have either birth by the twin midwife if twins led in correct way but my consultant said straight away his opinion is c section. I’m the same as you and the idea of an induction puts me off! I was induced with my first and it was sooo long and difficult to get going it puts me off especially with the extra risk of twins x

Yeah the sonographer even apologised for leaving me in limbo and I was like that’s exactly how Iv been feeling. I was so scared about the growth difference but she said it’s only concerning if it’s 2 weeks apart and they will keep monitoring. X

It’s been so up and down for you it’s so unfair I really hope you get answers soon!! I was asking as I had my twin midwife call today and my twins are 3 days apart and she said that’s not a concern so I was wondering at what point they would be concerned. My consultant said it’s normal for difference between them but as long as it doesn’t suddenly change loads they will just monitor. Thats the plus of a twin pregnancy we are monitored so much x

Oh wow at 10 weeks! No one’s mentioned any birth plan to me yet but from what Iv read online on average it’s a c section around 36 weeks. Oh I’m so scared of induction or natural birth with twins! I’m doing so much reading on c sections just to feel prepared. What is the +6 detail? X

Yeah that’s what I’m so shocked about because iv had probably 10 scans now and each time twin B is only 1 day behind twin A and to all of a sudden be 7 days behind is a huge thing for me! Even last week it was a 1 day difference. I did mention all this to sonographer and she didn’t seem concerned. Do both of your twins move the same ways? My twin B that is smaller with the potential exomphalos always seems like it’s not moving and even today I thought it had died but then it moved & I felt relief. I feel so stressed that I’m feeling detached from growing a connection with them incase I lose one. X

I’ve had 3 scans and my one on Tuesday was the most visual as we had a screen at the end of bed so we watched for 40mins and I did notice my bigger twin is more active! They were rolling around doing flips and almost looked like they were kicking the other twin, both were moving but bigger twin was definitely more active. Xx

Hi Nicky they have confirmed it is exomphalos. But what’s worse is that twin is measure a week and a half behind with less fluid. They said I can either do nothing, do some tests, terminate that twin or terminate both 😢
