Hey everyone

I’ve just found out Im about 5 weeks 2 days pregnant.

i already have 1 daughter who’s 4. It’s the same father who’s a bit of a dick who won’t take this news well. I don’t live with him and haven’t for the four years of her life practically.

i want a sibling for my daughter and I’m 31 in a few months and I didn’t want to be having children late into my 30s.

I know my mum and my support network will be going crazy at me if I tell them and tell
them I’m keeping it.

Im not “ ready” but is anyone ever?

Yes I think we all know how babies are made.

I don’t think you should bring another baby into this situation, I’d suggest having some therapy and reconsidering what you do in your spare time, you’re worth more than this.

i agree to be fair.

what every failing relationship needs - a new baby and exhausted crabbit parents.

You are just as much to blame for the pregnancy as the dad, no excuses. It is actually possible to refuse sex if he won’t wear a condom. Why would he have the snip to avoid getting his ex pregnant? He might want kids with his next partner. Besides, you are letting him have his cake and eat it.

Mum and dad not being together but having a baby together, although dad may be around even less now because he didn’t want another baby… yeah that’s confusing for kids, 4 year olds aren’t stupid.

Im sure your daughter does have everything she needs, but you should still be realistic about the situation.

I didn’t say I wasn’t it’s 50/50 both know what happens as it has before. My child isn’t his first child he has a 13 year old he’s 10 year older than me.

When we’ve spoke about it in the past it’s been “ you could already be pregnant you no” which makes us both irresponsible.

I am going to be realistic but that’s why I’m taking my own time to
digest rather than getting told what I should do by my support network.

I sit there and I think this but then I’m like I’m 30 nearly 31. I do feel like you’re right I just feel like I’ll resent myself maybe. Everyone around me has two children plus everyone’s got a nice life and their kids have each other where as it’s just me and her which is great we do well and there’s lots of love but I don’t know. It’s something I’ve always wanted and I’m now with the what ifs what I never get this chance again what if I don’t meet someone because I’m not in a rush to go out and meet someone else. Sorry if this is badly written or badly punctuation i feel sick.

You'll never meet someone because you're messing around with this lad.

It didn't work before... ye are on and off... completely irresponsible... using eachother for the odd night every couple of months.... he doesn't want another kid... you're wasting 2 hours sitting on the phone to him discussing life and he's literally said YOU NEED TO START LIVING FOR YOURSELF. First thing you should do is ditch him and raise your standards. You started this thread saying he's a bit of a dick. He isn't going to change.

You are very young. You can find someone else who will be devoted and loving but you need to kick this guy to the kerb.

My feeling is- lucky you! What can be lovelier than a new baby? You know you’ll love it, you can afford to support it, your dd will love a sibling, your family will at the very least come round to the idea and will most probably adore the baby. The father will very probably be chuffed (and will hopefully tie a knot in it for the rest of his life). But mostly - you’ll have this child you've created who’ll bring joy to your world. Why get rid of it?

It was a free childcare night and he was home on his own so I went back and did the dance with no pants and we’ve not had it since.

Right.

I think even if he would be a little annoyed at the start he’d come round. He did want our 4 year old he was excited we decided we wanted her and that was good he was the best during pregnancy he washed my hair carried me around his home because I couldn’t walk or felt off he did all the cleaning and cooking when we lived there he was attentive and he loved every movement and came to every scan. He’s been pretty useless until she turned three not going to sugar coat it however I feel more mentally prepared knowing all I know now.

I don’t know how to tell him I just know it’ll be at the start of the week.

Never in my 47 years on this planet have I (thankfully) met a woman who has a baby because their child ‘wants a sibling’ only on MN.

it’s not a want a sibling she has an older brother from her dads side. I would like her to have one to grow up with and live with especially when I’m no longer here. I have a little sister who I adore& love I want that for her because it’s beautiful and there’s nothing better than a bond you don’t get that with friends or cousins.

Absolutely nonsense, you want a baby because you want a baby! Gifting your child with a sibling with a cunt of a man is ridiculous

beasmithwentworth · 19/02/2026 22:42

@havingoneofthosedays as I said in my earlier post, that was one of my deciding factors when I unexpectedly found myself single and pregnant after my ex H had an affair. They are now 18 and 16 and it was the best decision of my life. Now you have met 2 in one night!

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/02/2026 23:03

Sorry op I think you’ve been irresponsible and you’re trying to convince yourself it’s the right thing to to just because your dc will benefit from a sibling
which is true but I think they’d rather not have a dad that was a dick.

You’re getting some really judgey comments. Everyone will come round, and I’m sure they’ll support you. I don’t know anyone who regrets having a child, I know lots that regret an abortion. It sounds like every part of you wants this baby. You’ve got this!!!
