Scan showing empty sac - thought I was 8 weeks

Hi all,

I thought I was 8 weeks going by date of my last period, but went for an early scan as I have been spotting brownish red the past couple of days, I also have a history of miscarriage, they scanned me, said I’m showing more like 5 -6 weeks and no baby seen, just the sac. No yolk sac either.
It was transvaginal on ths NHS.

I got my first positive test the week of the 26th May, on 5th June I took a clear blue that said I was 2-3 weeks. So I thought I would have seen something by now surely?

I’m 44 so I knew there was a higher chance of miscarriage or non viable pregnancy.
I am to go back in two weeks time for another scan to see if a baby has developed.

Has anyone had similar and its worked out positively? Really anxious right now.

Pic that I took with my phone of the screen attached.

When will clots and pain begin? I just want to be ready.

I had the same but at 12 week scan. Felt totally pregnant. I miscarried naturally at 13 weeks, but they were mostly positive at the scan to the point DH had to specifically ask them to confirm that this wasn’t normal at this point. They said we should come back in two weeks and were mostly suggesting that my dates were wrong (they for sure weren’t).

So sorry to hear you are going through this.
I didnt have particularly heavy bleeding after my 1st mc.
I had brown spotting and some light red bleeding on and off for 2 weeks. Had a scan which showed heart beat at a little over 6 weeks, but when I went back again after more light bleeding at 8 weeks, there was no heartbeat.
MC happened fully in the next day or 2 (can't quite remember). Was definitely some clots, but no heavy bleeding.

I went on the get pg again 4 months later, and he's just turned 11.
Best of luck getting through this next bit. It's rubbish and I was truly heartbroken.

I'm so sorry but I'll say the same as everyone else, it doesn't look good. I had a scan at 7 weeks 3 days and there was definitely a little blob and a heartbeat.

I wish they would have just told me that it’s not going to be good news after the scan yesterday. I know they said about wrong dates etc but I got a 2-3 on clear blue on 5th June. I just feel like it’s cruel giving me false hope for two weeks time.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

I had to have scans by two different sonographers to confirm miscarriage.
I had my first scan at 7.5 weeks but was 6 weeks with a possible flicker of a heartbeat, they rescanned 2 weeks later saying it could go either way. The second scan showed only a few days growth but now no heartbeat, this was with the same sonographer through the rainbow room at my epu. To have management of the pregnancy loss I needed a scan with another sonographer so that it was absolutely unambiguous that this pregnancy wasn't more before they initiated managed loss. This was done a week later at the epu and did confirm the loss.
I started bleeding the night before this scan and passed the pregnancy the evening after the scan.

For mine, apart from the two surgically assisted if I remember it was like a v bad period for cramps, minimal bleeding until one v nasty one.

The surgically managed ones involved inducing early labour & then a d&c which thankfully I had a GA for, so although it was painful for a couple of hours the rest passed without me knowing.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

So sorry you’re going through this. I had really similar and ended up having 4 scans and each time the doctor was really positive with saying it could just be too early, but I should have been 7 then 8,9,10 weeks at each scan. It’s horrible as the logical part of me knew something was wrong but when they didn’t tell me bluntly and just sent me off each week, it gave me false hope x
