elective c-section what to expect? please never had one before

im having an elective c-section in 7 weeks ive never had one and would like to know the procedure please.i want to be awake with my DH there how long does it take?when will i be up and about again? can you pick baby up easily as i want to bf.thanks

hi ladys i had a c-section with my daughter who is now almost 7,im due in 6weeks with baby number 2 and im having an elective c-section and am terrified of the epidural can someone plz enlighten me a bit although i had an emergency with my first i was in so much pain as it was and dont recall the spinal heeeelp!!!

I don't think there is much I can add to what has been said already! Just make sure you tell them what you want - ie do you want them to drop the screen, do you want them to clean the baby up a bit before you hold him, that sort of thing. I found all the people around to be fab - they played Barry White 'My First, my Last, my Everything' as he was born and I can honestly say that I was laughing as my DS was born!

Having said all that, it is a tiny bit freaky to walk in to an operating theatre, you feel totally fine and well and suddenly there's the slab you are going to be lying on and you know that within 30 minutes you are going to be recovering from quite a big operation. but don't let all the machines freak you out, just tell yourself that they are all there to help and support you, they are not scary.
