Hi.
I was feeling shitty whole day today and my feet look more swollen than usual. Currently 34 weeks pregnant.
did home urine test for protein and this was the results. I’m freaking out. Shall I be worried?

Op ring your midwife or triage unit for advice.

I had a trace of protein in my urine for quite a few weeks and then developed a persistent headache, had 3 pluses of protein and elevated blood pressure which went back down. I was taken in for overnight monitoring but everything settled and it didnt actually develop into anything although I did have extra appointments as a result but better safe than sorry OP.

I have had pre eclampsia with my 1st all good controlled with medication.

Currently pregnant again and every single pee sample has had protein in it. They always just send them off to the labs always come back normal. Blood pressure is normal to.

It's not necessarily pre eclampsia but I really do recommend getting it checked it's not something to muck about with.

Please get off mumsnet and call maternity triage and take your three year old with you. You're worried enough to 1) dip your urine 2) measure your bp and 3) post on here so just go and seek actual medical advice.

Hi Op
hope you’re ok. I had pe with HELPP. it can progress really quickly so best to be seen tonight. But you may be totally ok and I hope you are. Please let us know how it goes.

I had PE in my first pregnancy and was diagnosed primarily for the high BP and extreme swelling. The protein in my urine kept increasing until it was ++++

Second pregnancy I had trace protein and ketones on and off throughout but never high BP or swelling. I was watched closely for PE but never developed it.

Both healthy babies

Thank you everyone.
ive spoken to maternity unit and they told me to do another urine sample in the morning, on an empty stomach. If it’s still green then they want me to come in for additional checks.

Thinking of you overnight. I'm glad you phoned your maternity unit, that was really sensible.
Hope your test is better this morning and the rest of your pregnancy trouble free x
Best wishes.

I'm sorry but I think it's entirely reckless of them to ask you to retest your own urine and go from there. You are not a healthcare worker, the dye can run on these strips, you're not trained to interpret them. And even at that, the readings on strips can fluctuate. They're not diagnostic, they're suggestive. You need a UPCR to diagnose PET. And even at that, you have symptoms you're clearly worried about so the result of the dipstick is irrelevant, no?

No one should ever just test their own urine, if you have concerns, just go in.

PET can present in many different ways. Sometimes it's there before the elevated protein shows itself. Anyone with concerning symptoms just go in and get checked. Best of luck OP.
