HCG levels at 5-6 weeks pregnant

Hello, I am 6 weeks pregnant (by last period) and went to a&e last night for spotting and light cramps. They did my HCG and said it was really low at 654. I have looked at charts and for 6 weeks it is definitely super low, but if I ovulated a couple of days late, could it be that this is actually ok? I don’t know whether I need to just accept that this will be a loss. The second in 3 months.
if you know, what was your HCG at 5 or 6 weeks x

I had mine done a little earlier at 4+1 weeks and repeated again 2 days later 4+3. It was 426 and then it went up to 819. I always thought it should double but they were happy with that and I’m currently 7 weeks and feeling fine🤞🏽.

I’ve heard the single number really doesn’t tell you much and low doesn’t necessarily mean bad! Are you going back in a day or two to see if it is rising?

I’m so glad it’s going ok for you! Yes I am in for a scan tomorrow at 8am then back to the hospital at 8pm for repeat bloods tomorrow. I know it’s only a small time to wait but driving myself crazy!! I’m hoping all is well but I just have a horrible feeling it’s not x

Bless you! The waiting is awful isn’t it! I was the same! Although I was blessed with my DD I had 3 b2b MMC prior and they really do cause anxiety. My lovely midwife told me “every pregnancy is normal until it’s confirmed it isn’t”. I don’t know why but for some reason it really helped me.

I’ll say a little prayer for you tonight and hope everything goes well in the morning❤️ I had my last scan at just under 6 weeks (perhaps a day or so) so around the same time as yours too! Xx

I love what your midwife said. It’s so lovely. We have a 3 year old who I had the easiest pregnancy with and now this will be the second pregnancy I’ve lost in 3 months. Praying that it’s ok but if not I just don’t know why or what’s going wrong!
did your scan show much at just under 6 weeks? My HCG is low so not expecting being able to see much but anxiously waiting

We could see a little heartbeat but my hcg was expected to be around 6,000 by that day (as it was 6 days after I had the 819 result).

I hope everything is going well for you now ❤️

thats great. I am in the waiting room of the hospital now! I’m anticipating that they say they can’t see anything and to send me back in a weeks time. I am due back here at 8pm tonight for repeat bloods which I imagine will give me a much better insight onto how things are going - as if they have quadrupled then it’s not looking good. Thanks so much for the support x

Absolutely the bloods will be a better indication especially if there’s a chance you ovulated a few days later❤️ but I still hope it went okay.

Can I ask, are you expecting your hcg to quadruple from Monday’s result? I was always under the impression they expect them to double in 36-48 hours xx

Sorry I mistook the doubling to be every 24 hours so I was thinking as it’s 48 hours it needed to double again but I think it’s double every 48 hours actually!
they are querying a pregnancy in unknown location so I’m just praying that this is just a super early pregnancy but we will see. X

Ahh makes sense, so tonight we’re hoping for 1,200’s🤞.
Did they tell you if they saw anything on the scan? I only ask because believe it or not I had to go back for the same thing! Turns out they did see the pregnancy (no fetal pole but yolk and sac) in the right place but also a mass and fluid nr my left ovary. That would have been at 5+2ish then I went back 6 days later and the mass and fluid had disappeared and baby and heartbeat was showing xx

DCmum95 · 12/03/2025 16:35

Ah that’s so interesting. I’m so glad it worked out well for you. They said there was something on my left ovary which could be a sign of early pregnancy that hasn’t implanted into my womb yet, or it could be the sign of an ectopic. They said my womb had thickened but they couldn’t see anything else. Just hoping that my dates are wrong (although logically I don’t think the days we had sex would match up to me ovulating late, but we will see. X

2477 for me
4792 at 6+2

I hope the blood results give you more clarity. Have they booked a follow up scan for you?

I’m here now. They had no idea I was coming even though the nurses on Monday booked the appointment for me. They’ve taken my bloods but don’t seem that interested which is worrrying. After my scan today they said that the doctor this evening would go through everything and come up with a plan. Likely seeing if my HCG rises to 3000 I think is what they said they expect to see something on a scan. Or obviously if there is no rise then discuss management options. I’m hoping that the doctor will see me but they just suggested sending me home for the doctor to call at some point

have just had my HCG levels back and they have doubled to 1408. We are being rescanned in a week. So nervous but worried. An ectopic isn’t ruled out of course but it is much less likely now the HCG is rising. I am just praying that it means I ovulated late and am behind what I should be. So scared but I guess have a week now to try and keep my mind off things

Oh I’m so happy to hear this!!! And as you say, although ectopic isn’t completely ruled out - the fact that your hcg has rising that much in 48 hours is such a good sign!! I haven’t had a confirmed ectopic myself but a few friends have and their hcg rose but it was very little after 2 days.

I’m surprised they’re making you wait a week considering your hcg should be around 3,000’s in the next 2 days. But it sounds like they’re anticipating a healthy pregnancy and so obvs the longer you wait the more you’ll see. I’m so happy for you❤️.

Just gotta hang in for the week now mama but congratulations! Xxx

Great news! Fingers crossed for your next scan
