High Carbon Monoxide Reading Non Smoker

I had my 16 week midwife appointment today and she got me to do a Carbon Monoxide test. I'm not a smoker and never have been. My test at my first week appointment was totally normally. This time it was 14. We have a Carbon Monoxide alarm. Our cars have been recently MOTd, I work from home so no exposure to pollution particularly. We live in a town but not on a busy road. I did touch up some paint in our bedroom a few weeks ago but I wore a proper mask the whole time (my partner is in construction so we have good PPE equipment) and we usually sleep with the window slightly open most nights. The midwife seemed to think it could be that and said we would take it again at my next appointment.

However i have a feeling I did the test wrong because I didn't take a deep breath in before I held my breath for 15 seconds and then blew into the device. Would this be enough to throw the result? I didn't realise until I got home and googled that that is what I was meant to do. Feeling a bit stupid now but also simultaneously wondering if it's actually a real result and if I need to be concerned about it!

Taking it incorrectly would lead to lower results not higher. Give them a ring and ask to redo it with a different machine and if it's still high you need to look into the cause.

Do you have a boiler at home? Could you have it serviced if it hasn’t been in the last 3-6 months?
