Cyst on ovary? Cancer scare

Hi guys,
im just looking to get some advise. Have anyone else had an ovarian cyst? I’ve had mine for around 6 years now and since I’ve been pregnant it’s grown quite a lot. I’ve seen the gynaecologist a few times to have it monitored. I’m now at the point where the cyst has grown quite large. I’m feeling abitworried now because the gynaecologist I’ve seen today has mentioned you can can’t rule cancer out due to the fact that’s it’s been growing. I told her that I have been told by other people that’s been growing due to the pregnancy hormones. I’ve now had my baby and the Cyst is still there. The first gynaecologist told me it’s not cancer so I’ve never been worried until now I’ve seen this doctor today. Has anybody else had a similar experience. (Booked for op have cyst out today) she’s ordered a blood test and it’s says LFP which I’ve googled it and it’s for cancer testing. I have the cyst for 6 years now so surely if it’s cancer I would certainly now about it now. Any advise 😩

I had what they thought was a cyst but turned out to be an infected abscess in my abdomen. Not pleasant but not cancerous.

During investigations I was told that ovarian cysts are usually benign but they did the CA125 blood test as that's elevated when you have cancer. My levels were out of normal range, in the low 100s, and I was terrified but they told me that would just be due to having the inflammation of having the cyst/abscess and if it was cancer the reading would have been in the 1000s. Not a doctor myself so make of it what you will, but that's what they told me! They also did biopsies etc after to confirm.

What was your CA125 result? Best to just ring your GP if you are worried x

Ì had a dermoid cyst which the size if a grapefruit, it was discovered at my 20 week scan. I was monitored throughout my pregnancy and it grew and they removed it with my ovary when i had a c sec with my youngest. They are very common, women can have them for years and not even know until they have a scan for something. They are likely to grow during pregnancy because of hormones etc. Try not to worry too much, as they are common but make sure you get an MRI.

@ToffeeForEveryone hi thanks for the reply, that sounds very painful! Did your operation go okay? I’ve had mine for 6 years now it was around 5cm when it first found but when I got pregnant it grew to like 12cm they told that’s normal at the time but now they seemed worried? My ca125 was 41 they said yesterday that seems to be a good sign

@spoonfulofsugar1 hi thanks for reply, I wish they did the same for me to give me a c section and to remove but they wanted to sort it out after pregnancy. Yes told me at the beginning that pregnancy hormones can make it bigger, is that what they told you? But now they all seemed worried. I’m only 28 can’t imagine going through anything like this I just worry a lot about things like this 😫 x

Hi op. What type of cyst is it ? I have a dermoid cyst , haven’t had my 20 week scan yet so don’t know if it has grown. It was discovered at an ivf appointment.

That's what I had. Apparently I had had it since birth, but it was only discovered when I fell pregnant with dd1.

They removed it (along with my left ovary) during the C-section when she was born.

Dermoid cysts are not fluid filled cysts as they have solid matter inside.

Weepixie · 17/01/2025 10:28

if it was cancer the reading would have been in the 1000s

Im sorry but that’s a very common misconception and my C125 result was 54. In fact it’s a feature of the extremely rare MOC that C125 results can be misleading.

Also, others can have an ovarian cancer diagnosis of the more prevalent ones with figures in the early 100’s and a slightly raised C125 should never be ignored.

Kayannie123 · 17/01/2025 11:28

@ToffeeForEveryone sorry, my ca125 marker was 31 not 41 thanks

@Meredusoleil was yours malignant ? Gosh I really want to get mine reviewed again after reading this thread . IVF clinic didn’t seem concerned and said it wouldn’t need removal unless it got bigger. I am going to ask at my next hospital appointment for sure.

Meredusoleil · 17/01/2025 12:18

I don't think they even tested for cancer tbh. It was big enough to justify a C-section!

Mooosewoman · 17/01/2025 18:33

My CA-125 was completely normal, yet I had cancer. It’s not an accurate test.

fudgesmummy · 17/01/2025 22:20

@Kayannie123
I was about the same as @Weepixie
I had a complete hysterectomy, my cervix, womb, both ovaries and tubes were removed. They also removed my appendix and repaired an umbilical hernia on the way out!

Kayannie123 · 17/01/2025 22:32

@fudgesmummy sorry to hear this, can I ask what tests they did to get your diagnosis? Thanks for sharing. I’ve had a ca125 and just another blood test waiting on those results. My first gynaecologist told me it was benign and nothing to worry but now another one seems concerned. I have had my cyst for 6 years ago first found when I was 20 x

@Kayannie123 keep us updated on how you get on. If you were only 20 when you got the cyst the chances of this being anything sinister are extremely extremely unlikely.

Kayannie123 · 18/01/2025 18:03

@Cornflakes123 hi yeah I will let you all know how I get on next week. Yea I hope you’re right. I just wish the gynaecologist shared the same reassurance! Thank you xx

@Kayannie123
The tumour was found quite by chance when I had a MRI scan for something else. I was referred to a consultant on the 2 week cancer pathway, she did an internal and external ultrasound and I had a CT scan.
From receiving the results of the MRI scan and major surgery was only 5 weeks.

Kayannie123 · 24/01/2025 15:16

Hi guys just thought I’d update you all, my test results from the blood test has came back clear. So they are now happy for me to be on the waiting list to have my cyst removed 😊
