I told my boss I’m pregnant about a week ago. Also asked what kind of pregnancy policy she has - how long would be my maternity leave and how much would I get paid etc. No response for a couple of days. Then she got back to me saying she will of course pay me maternity. No answer how long and how much etc. Also she recently asked me to do 10 hours a day instead of 8. So I asked her if she could put those new hours in my contract me. To that which she replied : I understand. It will also give you more money when you're on maternity leave. Why am I feeling she’s being sarcastic? I’m only asking for those hours to be in a contract as what’s going to happen is when it comes to maternity leave I will only be paid for 8 hours although my hours are 10 now.
my husband says I should give her more time to sort it but I’m giving birth in about 3.5 months and I’m feeling anxious.
also just to add - my company is really little, just myself and my boss. I’m her only employee.

Any advice will be appreciated.

The only friends I know who've had more that statutory have worked not just for big companies, but big companies with plenty of money sloshing around and to attract the best of the best employees (big 4 accountancy firms etc).

They have to have the Matb1 form to work out the maternity leave details formally. You get this roughly at 25 weeks. I'm 30 weeks and hr are on with the maternity leave details but I have nothing official yet. She needs to do a risk assessment though, that's important. Do you get enhanced maternity pay or is it standard, if its not enhanced it doesn't matter what your contract is it'll be the government amount after 6 weeks.

I got a really good enhanced maternity but for a really big company, still on maternity now and going back soon. But it’s definitely not a given even with big employers, I have friends who also work for huge companies only getting SMP.

Yes, a big 4 is where I got my enhanced pay.

I got enhanced pay of 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay. But I work for a global company who have funds to pay me and my mat cover

I get enhanced pay of 6months full pay. Then I get statutory for 3 months. Id imagine a 2 person company only gets statutory . Can you do KIT days?

I don’t know anyone who’s been paid the same as their wages the whole time they’ve been off (unless only taking 6m etc) I work for the nhs which is a “generous” enhanced pay of 8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay (which stat mat then topped up) then just stay mat until 39 weeks.

very very unusual for small businesses to offer enhanced pay. So you’ll get 90% of your wages or standard mat pay, which ever is less.
