Potentially miscarrying - feel hopeless

I don't know why I'm posting this, perhaps I need a vent since I can't tell anyone. I'm 6 weeks today, found out just before Christmas and it brought some much needed light in the wake of work burnout and the terminal cancer diagnosis of my mum.

I went to the loo a little while ago and the water was pink and it was pink when wiping. Subsequently have had some brown blood in knickers. I feel like my lower abdomen is starting to tighten and cramp. Have called the EPU.

I'm sure people will say there's still hope, but because life feels so hard at the moment this feels like an inevitability and I'm heartbroken.

Hi I'm sorry you are bleeding and you are having a difficult time. I have had 2 miscarriages so I know the dread that comes with seeing the blood.
Cautious hope right now. The fact it's brown blood is good. Brown blood is usually old blood. It's good you have called the epu, what have they said to do?

Keep an eye on how things go over the next day or two. For me the bleeding went quite quickly to heavy bleeding. I read that 1 in 3 times the bleeding leads to miscarriage so it's more likely to be ok than

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Please try not to worry, bleeding in early pregnancy can be so common. I honestly dont think its talked about enough.
Its good you've called EPU, but just be prepared that they might just ask you to sit tight and see if your symptoms get worse, sometimes they will tell you to look out for heavy bleeding or bright red blood ect.
Also being that you're early in the pregnancy, it can be normal not to see much on a scan.
Also sorry about your mum, i've very recently had a MC and also struggling with my Dad being stage 4 so I know how hard it is.
wishing you all the best and really hope everything is okay xx

I'm really sorry to hear of your mum's diagnosis. I've been there, with losing my dad in this way.
I've also had bleeding in pregnancy. It started at 6 weeks if I remember correctly - much ike a period. I also had a lot of brown (old) blood throughout my first trimester. I had another worrying bleed at 10 weeks, which was a huge gush of blood when I was sleeping at night. Just wanted to reassure you that it doesn't mean you'll miscarry. I hope the scan at EPU can reassure you.❤️

I had bleeding in my first pregnancy at the point my period was due, enough for me not to think I was pregnant! Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do but wait but don't loose hope

Iamsunshineinabag · 05/01/2025 18:49

I also had this (spotting and cramps). I went to the EPU and they scanned and everything was fine (she is 3 now!). My SIL had the same with my nephew, also fine. It's more common than people realise I think.

That said, hopefully the EPU will see you and scan you to make sure. Sending good luck your way.

Try not to panic just yet, I've had this (even bright red bleeding) with last pregnancy and she was totally fine! Spotting/bleeding/cramps can be normal pregnancy symptoms!

Brookie2 · 06/01/2025 09:14

Gosh thank you so much all, I didn't expect so many lovely comments.

@Winnie1311 you were right EPU have said I can come in but they recommend I wait a couple days if possible.

I had quite a lot of spotting in the lead up to my missed period, so I'm holding onto hope that maybe I'm just prone to some bleeding. However, it's progressed since my post and I'm now having brown blood and it feels like the threat of period cramps.

I can't stand the uncertainty.

I really appreciate you all taking the time. I'll try to keep this thread updated.

Positive update - went to the EPU and they scanned me, found I was 7 weeks along and they found a little heartbeat. Said that spotting / bleeding can be totally normal in many cases. Relieved. Now to try and stay calm for the rest!

Thank you again to everyone who offered words of reassurance. 💕
