Subchorionic haematoma in pregnancy

Hi has anyone experienced a situation where a subchorionic haematoma has been previously missed through an early pregnancy scan (internal) but at another scan has been found?

Backstory:

Found out I was pregnant the week before christmas going by my dates I should have been 5 weeks but the clear blue test only came out as 2-3 but I know you have to add on a couple of weeks with that and me and my partner didn't believe I was already 5 weeks pregnant basing on when we had sex not that we track that but there was a 2 week period where we didn't because he was working long shifts at work so didn't see each other.
New year's eve I started bleeding so went to a&e and was referred to the early pregnancy unit. They done a urine test which confirmed I was pregnant and done a blood test which showed my hcg levels were coming out at 4 weeks pregnant (2,000 something). My cervix was closed. The next day I went back to hospital to have a scan. Nothing out of the ordinary and the lady just believed that I was too early to see anything. The sac was there. Two days later went back to hospital to have my bloods repeated. Went home and they phoned me with the results 4 hours later. My bloods showed that my hcg levels had increased but hadn't doubled they were now 3,000 something but should have been in the 4,000 figure. They were concerned that was now an ectopic pregnancy so I had just over an hour to get back to hospital for an emergency scan.
Had the scan which showed it wasn't an ectopic pregnancy, my cervix was still closed and the sac still present with the ring round it but nothing inside it yet. Which if I'm only 4 weeks then you wouldn't see anything inside it yet. The scan also showed that I have a heart shaped uterus and did show a large area of blood behind the sac but on the scan was grey not black which is good but can't remember why the lady said grey colour is good.
I'm now booked for more bloods and another scan on Friday so is just a waiting game but I'm just wondering if it could be a subchorionic hematoma but they've just missed it?
My bleeding keeps getting worse then easing then worse again. I'm passing clots some of the time which literally just look like blood clots not tissue or the sac but I've never had a miscarriage before so not entirely sure what I'm supposed to be looking at if I'm honest. Next to no pain too just the odd cramps here and there.
Anyone got any experiences they can share with me please? Happy to hear both positive and negative ones. Just doesn't make sense to me the bleeding easing then heavy the next day as I thought if you pass the pregnancy then the bleeding eases within 5 hours and then it's just light for up to 2 weeks? Again not entirely sure what happens.
I'm certain this is a miscarriage but still holding onto some hope.

Hi,
I would get a scan and ask explicitly that they look for a hematoma and measure it. It seems unlikely they would miss it but possible. Mine was found at a 6 week scan. Hope it all works out well for you x

Bleeding without cramps is unlikely to be a miscarriage I think, so still plenty of hope.

Yes. I had one all the way through my pregnancy. Occasional light bleeding but apart from that everything was fine.

Thankyou I'm going to ask at my scan on Friday. The midwife that we spoke to after all the tests I said to her if there's any chance this could be a viable pregnancy and she was quick to write it off as a miscarriage as she kept saying your hcg levels haven't doubled and you only have the sac but I'm potentially only 4 weeks pregnant so would be difficult to see any more than a sac at this stage x

Did they find it at the first scan?

Second scan I think. I had lots of scans as I had a ruptured ectopic and a miscarriage (after healthy scans) in between two healthy pregnancies xx

I had one that wasn't seen in internal scan at 7 weeks, never picked up by nhs I general but was picked up on all my private scans. It was more black though with grey bits than grey itself. The black is the bloody fluid and the grey was more the tissue breaking down. The bleeding for me did continue but wasnt a lot. It was more blood when I wiped that went from dark brown to bright red then just spotting/red to brown when wiping only. There was never a lot of it but it lasted almost a month but the scans showed it getting smaller over time to the point where it had gone but the sonographer could still tell there was blood in my tract waiting to come out. Good luck!!!

@Ta325 at exactly 6 weeks (IVF dates) I woke up to blood through my underwear and pjs. I rang EPU and they scanned me that same morning. There was a heartbeat and baby was measuring less than 6 weeks. They couldn't say for sure what had happened and nothing was seen in the scan. They said that sometimes a bleed won't be visible if the blood has all passed. I was told the pessaries I was taking could have irritated my cervix, but there was a lot of blood for this in hindsight.

I had a further two scans between 7 weeks and 7.5 weeks as still spotting red then brown. No signs of issues and baby growing as expected.

I had another scan at 9 weeks just as bleeding had stopped. They found a SCH by my cervix. They explained that the area can refill with blood, which fits with the bleeding externally having stopped and this may be what had caused the earlier bleeding.

2 weeks later I had another scan and the SCH was the same size. I then started taking ALA in an attempt to reduce it. At 13 weeks I had my dating scan and the SCH had gone!

You may wish to look into ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid). Best wishes for you x
