Average age of first or second time mum round here

redgingerbread · 02/01/2025 11:47

Totally normal age to be pregnant!

Mushroo · 02/01/2025 11:47

It’s a really average age for a non-first baby.

greyskyoverthere · 02/01/2025 11:48

Is this a joke? Why would anyone bat an eyelid at 37?! I had mine at 40 and 43 and I was not even the oldest of those pregnant at the same time as me.

37 is a perfectly bog standard age to be pregnant.

rubyslippers · 02/01/2025 11:49

Congrats!
There’s nothing unusual about both situation or age with regards to your pregnancy

NormaNormalPants · 02/01/2025 11:49

Currently 33 weeks pregnant with my second, completely normal in my circles so hasn’t even crossed my mind to worry others might think I’m past it.

CandyCane457 · 02/01/2025 11:49

I’m 35 and it hasn’t crossed my mind that people might have something to say about my age!

Boohoo76 · 02/01/2025 11:50

I had my second at 37, completely planned. My SIL and two cousins were pregnant at the same time. I was the youngest. Very common age to be pregnant in the circles that I mix in.

Babyybabyyy · 02/01/2025 11:53

There were maybe 2 or 3 older mums in their late 30s or maybe very early 40s at baby groups I attended. They had 2 younger ones in their pre teens or teens. They stood out but I still talked to them and it was nice as they were experienced. Pregnancy is apparently riskier for women over 35.

tara205 · 02/01/2025 11:54

Thank you for the support ladies really appreciate it. Xx Thank you xxx

I'm 37 and pregnant with my planned second baby! I'll be 38 when the baby is born. I don't really care what anyone else thinks anyway but yeah statistically being in your 30s is fairly standard around here, I wouldn't consider myself old.

GG1986 · 02/01/2025 12:04

I had my 2nd at 37 and didn't feel old at all and no one said anything about my age. Congrats x

The midwives won't bat an eyelid and you won't get special treatment. With my second they had changed the rules in my health board so that pregnant women age 40 and over got a couple of extra scans.

Its a very ordinary age to be pregnant.

spingtime · 02/01/2025 12:05

I think its a lovely age to have a baby.
Op dont give it a second thought of what others say they can go fuck their selfs.
We all get judged no matter what age we are its how you deal with it that counts.
I had my first at 16 second at 18 im now 38 and mine are 22 this year and 20 in 2 days.
I couldent care less what others have said and want to say now.
My sister is in her 40s and has a baby.
Enjoy it and i wish you all the best.

KnittedCardi · 02/01/2025 12:12

31 with first, 37 with second. Very, very, standard round here. Young mums are the ones who are unusual round here.

adviceneeded1990 · 02/01/2025 12:13

Standard for a first/second among my friends/colleagues. Congrats!

Tdcp · 02/01/2025 12:18

I'm 38 and currently 28 weeks. I haven't had any judgement at all. It really doesn't matter what any one thinks, as long as you're happy with the situation :) congrats!

DragonflyRuby · 02/01/2025 12:22

I’m 37 and pregnant with my first, don’t feel like it’s remotely unusual round here at all!

CharlieAndMoose · 02/01/2025 12:31

I'm turning 38 imminently and currently pregnant with my first. Didn't even occur to me that it was unusual - I certainly don't feel or look (I think!) too old to be pregnant! Most of my friends didn't start having babies until they were over 30.

sel2223 · 02/01/2025 12:54

Congratulations OP.

My first was born when I was 37 - straightforward pregnancy, no issues, DD1 is now 4.5 years old.

I'm now 42 and 28 weeks pregnant with DD2. Conceived naturally, no issues so far, low risk for everything.

Anon1983fox · 02/01/2025 13:25

I had my first at 37 and pregnant again at 39.. didn't think it was an issue? Most women I know are 35+ who have babies where I live/ socialize. Totally normal and they have built their careers, travelled etc before creating their little family.

TTCNO2AT44 · 02/01/2025 14:48

Congratulations! I'm almost 44 and planning another 🤞🏼 it is unusual in my area, I don't know of anyone else but sod them, this is my life and my family! It's taken me a while to be that bold. I had a surprise pregnancy at 41, completely overreacted, panicked about my age, risks, abnormalities and so terminated (there were other reasons too) 😔 I let myself be dragged down by the opinions of "geriatric pregnancy" and I spiralled. Biggest regret of my life. I then had another surprise pregnancy later the same year but unfortunately that baby did have a severe unsurvivable abnormality.

Enjoy your pregnancy you are blessed. I wish you lots of luck x

mnahmnah · 02/01/2025 14:52

I had my second at 37. He is now nearly 8. The other mums at school range from a few years younger than me to a little older. Never occurred to me that I was old!

overthinkersanonnymus · 02/01/2025 15:14

Im 37 and ttc my first.

I understand why you're worried about people thinking you're too old, I feel like that too. But the fact you already have two kids, would make that less unusual for me.

Where I'm from most people had their kids in late 20s so I'm a good 10 years behind them, and I feel ancient!

I went to collect my niece from nursery last week and all the mums were about 27!

haplessharpy · 02/01/2025 15:16

I had my fifth at 44. No one said a word and if they had it wouldn't have made me unpregnant, so what's the issue?
