Who is the father?

I tested positive this morning.

My last period started 7/12/24 and ended 11/12/24. I slept with number 1 on 14/12/24 and I slept with number 2 on 22/12/24. I regularly update my flo app with peak test dates so it put my ovulation date as 24/12/24 however didn’t test this month.

i took a pregnancy test 30/12/24 (16 days after having sex with number 1) and it was stark negative.

i just took a test 2/1/25 and it’s a very faint positive.

Who is the father?

There's no way to be sure without a DNA test.

If you're using a sensitive pregnancy test like First Response or Easy@Home you should get a positive test at the latest 12 days after ovulation, but probably more like 10 days after.

If you tested negative on the 30th then the earliest you could have got a positive test is the 31st. That means you almost certainly didn't ovulate before 19th December at the earliest, but it was probably a few days later than that.

If you got a very faint line on a sensitive test this morning, your ovulation date may have been the 23rd, which means partner 1 is out of the picture and partner 2 is the father.

Sperm can live in the body for up to 5 or 6 days, but conception is much more likely 0-2 days before ovulation. It is possible that you ovulated on the 19th or 20th and some live sperm was still hanging around from partner 1, and you didn't test positive until at least 11 days post ovulation. However, in my experience this is quite unlikely. So I think partner 2 is more likely to be the father.

Thank you very much for this!

I did a clear blue early test on the 30th and the same test yesterday (negative) and then the same again this morning (positive) so I think more likely number 2 as well x

Either is possible.. but number 2 is far more likely based on your cycle lengths - tho I suspect your ovulation date was earlier than 24th based on your previous testing.

No judgement here and not sure why people share their views, it's your life!

DNA is the only way to tell you 100% but, once you have your dating scan and get your official due date at 12 weeks you can use that due date to count back 38 weeks and get approximate conception date (bearing in mind a scan might be a few days out and sperm can live inside of you for several days prior to ovulation).

At the moment, it's really too early to say.

Also, bear in mind that apps like Flo are a guide only. The only way you could be certain of your ovulation date is if you were physically tracking in real life.

Most likely 2

BarbadosItsCloserThanYouThink · 02/01/2025 13:37

I'd say its more likely to be man 2

If you have been trying for years with guy 2 then I think most likely guy 1.

This is a point - while the dates do point to man 2, if you have been trying with him for a while then maybe there is an issue.
