Right-side pain and spotting

Hi everyone…

I appreciate that nobody can give me a solid answer as to what’s happening here but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I’m about 5+6. Pregnant a few months after a MMC. My test lines started off pretty light but now are solid dark lines.

I had some spotting a few days ago, a tiny bit of pink when I wiped after weeing. This lasted less than a day.

I called the EPU as I was worried and they booked me for early scan in a couple of days.

Then today, I woke up and had bad stomach pains. It started in the middle and then moved to the right side. It lasted all day and was really quite painful. I started worrying about ectopic.

I decided to go to A&E. They were quite dismissive at the start but said to sit down and wait. Eventually when I was seen, they just examined and pressed on my stomach and then took blood tests. They made it pretty clear they weren’t going to do a scan.

I waited around for hours but the results weren’t back, the pain had lessened, and there was nothing they could really tell me without a scan anyway so I went home. What a great NYE!

When I came home, I went for a wee and had sudden bad pain in middle of my stomach. When I wiped there was brown blood.

Then doctor called and said HCG was 2100 and I should have it checked again at my scan and that’s that. Nothing he could tell me really.

The scan is still a day and a half away. I’m just so scared and sad. I’m 100% sure deep down this is either another miscarriage or ectopic. And I’m terrified of the latter.

I was just wondering if anyone has gone through a similar situation?

Sadly without a scan or serial BHCG (48 hours apart) it’s impossible to establish what is happening. It’s rubbish but many hospitals don’t have out of hours scans so there is likely nothing they can do to get it earlier.

I would make sure you’re aware of the signs of ectopic and if you have any worsening of pain, bleeding or develop any other symptoms go back to A&E. They still won’t be able to scan but if you become clinically unwell while waiting they will go to theatre and have a look. Obviously they try to avoid this unless absolutely necessary.

The symptoms you need to be watching for and to return to A&E if you experience:

One sided pain that may feel dull or sharp, can radiate to the upper thigh or lower back, particularly if this pain is worsening.
Pain in the shoulder tip
Difficulty or pain passing urine or opening your bowels
Bleeding, particularly if it becomes heavy, soaking through pads etc.
Dizzyness, fainting

I hope everything works out for you and I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this right now.

Hello. Really sorry you're going through this. I had an ectopic a couple of years ago. When's your scan?

Your HCG level is maybe a bit on the low side for almost 6wks. Are you sure of your dates? The pain and spotting would also make me suspicious of an ectopic.

Just so you know, they might not be able to confirm the pregnancy location at your scan. Hopefully it's all fine and you'll be going home from your scan feeling reassured, but if they can't find the pregnancy location, it might take a few weeks to resolve.

I had repeat bloods every 48hr for about 2.5 weeks before being scanned. At the scan they saw I had internal bleeding and I needed surgery the same day. However I've been on a thread for TTC after an ectopic and lots of women on there needed multiple scans/blood tests before finally being offered medication.

My symptoms were
Dull pain on the left side, it was mild pain that I also felt in my back up to my ribs.
A mild burning sensation in the lower stomach/groim area on the left...a Dr suggested this might have been caused by the bleeding.
Pain during bowel movements, like a stabbing pain in the bum
Blackish spotting on and off
Feeling awful and out of breath pushing ds about in his pushchair.

Hope you get an answer soon xx

Thanks for your replies!

This has unfortunately turned out to be ectopic. Felt really positive about this pregnancy at the beginning. Now feeling like I'll never have a successful pregnancy :(

There was a small mass in the right tube. They initially wanted to do surgery as there was some fluid/blood on the scan so they thought the ectopic might be leaking/rupturing.

Then they said oh, since your HCG has dropped from 2,100 to 800 in 48 hours and the mass is so small we don't want to rush into surgery. Then sent me home.

I'm really scared and worried about the fluid that was seen. Scared it's going to rupture at home now. I don't have another blood test till Saturday and just feel like I can't relax.

Ohh shit. Really sorry. How stressful for you. I suppose you wouldn't be advised to wait if they thought there was an imminent risk of rupture. However, having been there I fully understand the fear...will keep my fingers crossed for Saturday.

If you do end up having surgery I didn't find it too bad. As in the actual physical process, as opposed to the emotional side. The incisions are really small and don't hurt much afterwards. The scars are tiny.
