Has anyone else had major anxiety before the 12 week scan? I just don't feel like baby will be there or constantly thinking the worst I'm finding it so hard to enjoy pregnancy, Im even scared to buy stuff in case I jinx soemthing 😩

My scan is on Thursday and I'll be 12+5 and I have had a few scans to be honest the last one being at 11+3 and baby has been fine every time but it's still so scary, I did have a chemical before this pregnancy and it took us a few years to get pregnant so I'm not sure if it's just all that, any advice?

I get your anxiety, I think it's normal. This is our first pregnancy as well, and because the 12-week scan seemed ages away, we booked a private one at 9 weeks. Everything looked fine then, but I was still anxious. Had the 12-week one last week and again things looked fine (I was actually 11+6 at that point). 🙂

I know it's difficult, but I would just try and take your mind off it for now. You can't really influence things in the meantime. Wait until Thursday, and if you have concerns, see if you can discuss them with the consultants.

Good luck!

Scanxiety is absolutely normal, I get it before every single scan and always have but I think the 12 week one is the worst as we're conditioned to see it as such a huge milestone in pregnancy.

I’m in your shoes too. NIPT results tomorrow then scan on Tuesday. It’s a 12 week scan but I’ll only be 11+3.

I had a good scan at 8 weeks but I just keep thinking anything can happen any day after that. I even feel nervous that something could happen the day after my scan if I’m not 12 weeks.

I lost our first at 16 weeks so well aware there’s no safe zone and 12 weeks means nothing. But it is the only milestone I have to stableise my mind atm.

I am praying for a low risk NIPT but I genuinely keep picturing her saying it’s high risk again and I’m scared I’m putting that into the universe 😭 I just want to fast forward six months.

I’ve also been super unwell this week and being sick everyday and I’m just scared I’m doing another first trimester again for nothing.

Completely understand the anxiety and also had a few early scans. If everything looked fine at 11 weeks it is very, very likely it will also look fine this Thursday.

Yes I totally get it, i was petrified with my 3rd pregnancy. My 2nd pregnancy ended in MMC at my 12 week scan but my 1st and 3rd were both fine and are healthy children now. I never had any other scans with my 2nd pregnancy so the fact you had a healthy scan at 11+3 means it's highly unlikely anything will be untoward in your scan now. Sending you lots of positive vibes and luck for your scan soon!

This is totally normal OP. I am due with my second next month and I still get anxiety at the growth scans 🤦 I'm not sure why, but you are not alone. And like others have said, I think this anxiety is heightened for the 12 week scan as it is seen as 'the' milestone. Wishing you all the best but please try and relax as much as possible 💗

I was the same OP. Had a scan at 11 weeks a low risk NIPT and still worried that 11 days later things wouldn’t be okay. They were but now I’m worried they won’t be at my 16 week appt in 3 weeks. I think it’s just never ending worry

BroomAdventures · 01/12/2024 22:16

Even the day of my section I was nervous for the scan! I got myself so worked up the day of my 12 week scan in my first pregnancy I ended up with a migraine and had to go straight to bed when I got home. Pregnancy worry is never ending x

@lgoldie @CSSL7 how did you get on? I hope everything is well for you both.

I'm due my 12 week scan on Friday and I’m terrified, we had a MMC earlier this year and found out at the 12 week scan so I’m convinced the same is going to happen. Did have a scan at 10+6 and all was well but I know that doesn’t guarantee anything!

I’m on progesterone too so convinced that will have masked a miscarriage if I’ve had one!

Our NIPT and scan was all perfect. I’m so relieved. I do still feel a bit anxious which is probably normal and wish I had more scans. I have another at 16 weeks so in two weeks but I would have one every week if I could afford it lol. I read that if you see a heartbeat at 10 weeks the chance of miscarriage drops quite a bit so fingers crossed thats true! Let us know how you get on!!

Grace1992 · 18/12/2024 22:10

@CSSL7 thats great news, so happy for you!

That positive about the heartbeat after 10weeks, I just always convince myself I’ll be the unlucky one again!

I know what you mean about a scan a week! The relief I get from a positive scan lasts just under a week before the anxiety creeps back in!

I will let you know how Friday goes 🤞🏼

Didn’t want to not update with my outcome - all was well thankfully 🩷🌈
