25 weeks pregnant and following a minor cold over a month ago, (which is long gone) I am left with a constant congested nose, occasionally runny. I can't breathe and it's making me utterly miserable. I have been using otrivine sparingly as a desperate measure just before sleep and in the morning just in one nostril but I still wake up unable to breathe and it's miserable during the day. It seems to be getting worse. I don't want to keep using the decongestant because of it not necessarily being recommended and also I don't want to end up with rebound congestion (may be a bit late) but I am at a loss what to do. I've tried saline sprays and steam which really don't have much affect. I have tried to contact GP to see if they can prescribe a steroid spray but I can't get an appointment for over a month.I'm really fearing I'm going to end up addicted to the decongestant.

Has anyone else suffered with this and how did you manage? Do you recommend something that actually works? Anything OTC?

me and I suffered even before pregnancy and this sounds silly but increasing water intake for me helped ( really cold water)

I also have this, Mine is bad throughout the day but worse at around 5 / 6am, I always wake up and need to blow my nose about eight times!
I haven’t really tried anything to prevent it but my symptoms are not as bad as yours it seems. I was relieved to find out it was pregnancy rhinitis and not my allergies playing up (dust mites, cats) as I was worried that might trigger allergies in the baby.
Sorry, no advice really but you have my sympathies! It is annoying!

I’ve had this for as long as I can remember and it’s definitely stuck around during pregnancy. I use Sterimar nasal spray, the congestion relief version, and would recommend. It’s salt water only and while it doesn’t completely solve the issue it definitely helps. Can use multiple times a day too. Hope you feel better soon. X
