Anyone struggling with the wait for the 12 week scan?

My first pregnancy but very much wanted and longed for. I’ve had scans at 6, 8 and almost 10 weeks. I’m almost 11 weeks now and my dating scan is still 2 weeks away.

I haven’t told anyone yet and just hoping to get to the dating scan and everything be okay. Anyone else find the wait frustrating? I found out when I was 3 weeks pregnant exactly (7DPO) so it feels like I’ve waited forever

It's the hardest time ever waiting for that scan!

I too had several scans before that plus had the NIPT so not as much pressure on the 12 week scan as for other people but I was still so anxious about it and it seemed like it was never going to come.

Now 21 weeks and I was the same again waiting for the 20 week scan

It’s so hard, isn’t it? My early scans have helped loads but I definitely do feel anxious still. Our NIPT is booked today, I was hoping waiting for the results will give me something to focus on

I'm not sure whether it helps or actually makes it worse having the extra scans but I couldn't have waited till 12 weeks.

Hope your NIPT goes well - my results were in a week later and all low risk but I was still a wreck waiting for them 🙈
It's such an anxious time, easier once you feel some movements though

My first pregnancy too, after IVF, so I've been fortunate enough to have an early scan already at 7 weeks. All looked well then but I'm very aware that I'm still in the high MC risk zone (now 10w2d). However our maternity services are very very slow here. I had my booking appointment on Friday, which was only confirmed 5 days earlier, despite reporting my pregnancy when i was discharged from the IVF clinic at 7 weeks pregnant. And I still don't know when my 12 week scan will be. I've been told I need to wait for a letter through the post. All seems very last minute and unnecessarily old fashioned in the day of apps and online communication!

Anyway for peace of mind I've booked a private scan for next Friday, when I should be bang on 11 weeks, because I'm fed up of having no idea when the formal one will be. If I had a date I'd wait for it; it's the lack of information that I can't cope with. I'm aware the scan can take place as late as 13w6d too, so it could potentially be another 3 and a half weeks yet. I do have a big social weekend coming up in 2 weeks time (when I'll be bang on 12) and I had really wanted my scan results by then so I can tell people (rather than make up a lame excuse for not drinking, that nobody would believe anyway!).

Hang on in there ladies, wishing everyone all the best for their scans!

I feel your pain. My booking in appointment (over the phone) isn't until 3 Dec - I'll be nearly 11 weeks by then, and the midwife is the one that books the scan. Last time there were 4 weeks between booking appointment and scan...so I could be looking at new year at this rate and be 14/15 weeks. 😭 We've decided not to get a private scan because we can go to EPU if I get any bleeding/scary symptoms. I had an early EPU scan at 6 weeks because of potential ectopic so this wait feels interminable. Also got loads of Christmas parties before then and DH and I agreed not to tell anyone until after we've had a scan to say it's all good.

Bless you! That does sound poorly organised. I’ve had multiple private scans too. I need them to keep sane

Oh wow! Surely 14/15 weeks is too late? I would ask if they could bring it forward

@OptimisticRealist2024 I thought the dating scan had to take place before 14 weeks? Interesting how different health authorities work too. My midwife has nothing to do with booking the scan. She's community based whereas my scan will be hospital based.

OptimisticRealist2024 · 17/11/2024 13:05

@xMrsxHx87x @HealthyPumpkin I've emailed her this morning because I'm a bit worried about the timing and whether they'll be able to do the screening tests if it's later - we'll wait and see. She arranged the scan last time round so don't understand why it would have changed since the summer but fingers crossed they can see me before Christmas! The whole system is so frustrating - the booking in is just a phone call for me, so they don't take blood pressure/urine sample or anything like the NHS England site says. (I'm not in England so think it's a bit hit and miss, just a Microsoft Form you fill at 6 weeks, a phone call to book in and then a scan before anything more happens.) I guess it's just a popular time to be in the first trimester! 🤷🏻‍♀️
