IVF Pregnancy measuring behind

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation and able to say what the outcome was- even if bad? It’s an IVF pregnancy so the dates of what I should be are in stone.

1st Nov Scan: EPU; put me as 5.1 when I should have been 5.5. (EPU scanned me because there were concerns I was having a ecptopic) no heartbeat. Just a sack and yolk.

7th Nov Scan: IVF clinic; said I was 5.4; when I should have been 6.4. They said there were two sacks and I had miscarried both and should contact EPU again. EPU scanned me on
8th Nov: EPU felt there was sufficient growth from their previous scan and whilst no heartbeat and felt it was a miscarriage they wanted to follow their policy of a week before treating me but agreed to book me in for the MVA (they remove the embryo while awake, it was horrific last time but I recovered quickly, I had a MMC in February)
14th EPU: Heartbeat found and it’s grown again. Dr said we need to ignore dates and go on weekly growth. We couldn’t believe it and neither could the EPU.
Scan booked for next Thursday.

It’s measuring 5.6 when I should be 7.3.
The EPU dr said it could go either way. My IVF nurse said when I called to update her that in her experience when it’s this behind a miscarriage is likely.

Any advice? Similar stories?

Hi, sorry to hear you are going through such a hard time, it can be such a worry when you don’t know either way!
I don’t have a simular experience as to that my embryo was smaller /no heart beat but then got bigger with a later heart beat appearing, but I have had 6 miscarriages, on a few of these ..each time after a positive test the embryo /baby was measuring fine but then got smaller as time went on for dates and unfortunately these ended in miscarriages.

However- your situation sounds different to mine where you now have a heart beat and that’s promising! Mine went the other way where I had it then lost it.

Have you had any HCG levels taken can I ask ? And also are you on any progesterone and have bleeding at all ?

It could just be a really slow started, I have heard stories before that I looked up, when I was going through miscarriages that the embryo can start of slow and then develop to be a healthy birth.

Easier said than done but, try stay postive and hope for the best and I wish you all the luck in the world 💫 keep us posted on how things go!

@hopefullsosbry thank you so much for replying.
I am really sorry for your six losses- did you find out the reason why? I hope you since have has success?

I am on lubion, clexane and cyclogest. However after being told I’d miscarried after my scans I didn’t take it for a week! Back on it now…

I had private hcgs while back- it was 1350, then 10,900 and then 15,345 which was all in range for the weeks I was at the time. I asked EPU about testing my bloods but she said we’d just go on scans now?

No bleeding. No real symptoms- however when I stopped all my IVF meds I felt sick all week but now I’m back on the meds I have no symptoms again?! I put my sick feeling down to coming off the drugs and that the sickness was withdrawal.

Long wait until Thursday ahead!

So not IVF but, when I was pregnant with my DD ( after several losses ) I tracked my LMP religiously and should of been 7 weeks when I had my scan. I was 5 weeks!

I asked how when I knew exactly when my LMP was and they said I must of just ovulated later in my cycle. DD is now almost 10

hopefullsosbry · 17/11/2024 15:17

Hi, unfortunately, no success yet, we are just starting our 3rd round of ICSI this week so fingers crossed. We are slight male factor with sperm DNA fragmentation and my age (41) prob doesn’t help although my AMH is 11 so not too bad?!

That sounds really good that your l HCG was high and if it was increasing with the 72 hours that’s a really good sign I would say ?! And if you have not had any bleed , especially after coming off everything as you say I would also take that as a good sign, it must be snug in there !🤞🏽I asked this as I think one of my miscarriages lasted so long as I was on progesterone and I thought it was just ‘being held in’ by this as it would prob have just come away naturally if not due the progesterone but the fact you have not bleed etc after coming off yours is a really good sign.

was it a fresh cycle or FET ? Just wondering is there any possibility of you falling naturally through the transfer process of you and partner ‘done the deed’ then could your dates be wrong due to that ?

I am sure Thursday seems forever away, I really hope it goes quick for you and there is good news for you 💫🤞🏽

Hatchyhatch · 18/11/2024 07:51

@TubDubDeRubTub i really hope mine works out. I just keep reading thread after thread and they go either way. The wait is torture!

@hopefullsosbry the very best of luck with your round!! It was a fresh transfer and we’ve haven’t done the deed for so long has we have been so scared of disrupting anything! Thursday still seems a long way away! Xxx

@Hatchyhatch hey .. was it today your scan was booked for? How did things go? Been thinking of you and hoping for the best! 🤞🏽💫

Hatchyhatch · 21/11/2024 15:56

Sadly not good news @hopefullsosbry So it’s not really grown. Now it’s 6.1 when it was 5.6 last time. It still has a heartbeat but it has slowed right down. I’m rebooked for scan and MVA on Tuesday as they suspect the heartbeat will stop over weekend. So another wait but EPU were excellent. Just feel stuck in a loop of scan’s and waiting.

Awh no I am so so sorry to hear this, it awful what you have had to go through so far with not knowing either way, hope you have a good support network around you. So if it still has a heart beat on Tuesday will they go ahead and remove or will they wait?

Hatchyhatch · 21/11/2024 17:32

No- the EPU said if there is still growth and heartbeat they will not treat me. She thinks it will end this weekend and the scanner felt that she could start to see the beginnings of blood in my womb even though I’ve had no bleeding. I am hoping to last until Tuesday as plan to take the remains to a clinic which will genetically test.

Awh, I really wish for some hope and that your wee embryo will have a burst of growth. Hopefully you can take it easy and I guess it’s just a waiting game. Hope you are ok xx

Hey, may I ask how you got on?

I am in the same boat, I am 6 weeks 1 day, but only measuring 5 weeks 1 day with a heart beat.

Hatchyhatch · 28/11/2024 15:09

Hello @Hopingforhappiness1 ,

Sadly the heartbeat had stopped and I had the MVA on Tuesday. I had a previous miscarriage in February where I measured a week behind and that also ended up in miscarriage. That one was natural pregnancy, the most recent was IVF.

Is yours natural or IVF? Hopefully your little one will be absolutely fine. I’m so so sorry I can’t write anything more reassuring to you because I know how awful the worry is. Do you have another scan booked?

Yes this is an ivf pregnancy, it's our second round and we only got one embryo. I think if this doesn't work out then it will be the end of our journey. I just don't think I can take any more losses, this will be my 5th, I've never made it past 6.5 weeks.

Hatchyhatch · 03/12/2024 08:04

@Hopingforhappiness1 how are you? Have you had any more scans? Xxx

Hey,

Thank you everyone for your replies they have given me a lot of hope.

I've decided to wait until next Wednesday when I would be 8 weeks and go from there.

I still have lots of anxiety and I'm really not sure how the scan will go, but I have everything crossed for this little one!

Hello everyone, thanks so much for all your words of encouragement.

I thought I would update this post for anyone who stumbles across it later on looking for answers!

I had my 8 week scan today and we saw the little baby and heartbeat. I am now measuring 7 weeks 5 days so I have caught up a few days since my first scan but still measuring very slightly behind, the clinic were not worried in the slightest.

Our ivf clinic have discharged us now so time to call the gp and get booked in with the midwife!
