Dye Stealers 1 week after suspected miscarriage

Hi,

I had what I believed to be a miscarriage a week ago today. I had heavy bleeding and some clots all day on Friday and then bled a little on Saturday & Sunday but it fully stopped on Monday this week. I would be 5 weeks today.

I went to urgent care and they just said I had to wait it out as this is my first pregnancy we just won’t know what’s happened and it was too early to scan. However since then I’ve had the darkest dye stealers and there is no sign of them getting lighter which I would expect now a week later? Because I’m early as well I would have thought the tests would be getting a lot lighter by now.

I should hopefully be able to go for an early scan next week but has anyone experienced this before? I haven’t had blood tests as the doctors are rubbish with me so don’t know my hcg levels.

I just wanted to give, perhaps, some reassurance until your scan. I know when I was in this position, both with the following story and with the subsequent MMC of my second, I liked a bit of hope to see me though.

So, I conceived my DD via a Frozen Emrbyo Transfer. I got my positive test at the equivalent of 9DPO.

I had some very slight spotting and called my clinic who suggested it may have been some irritation from the pessary progesterone.

Then, around 5weeks 5days, I had a massive bleed, similar to how you described, and I was absolutely heartbroken.

The clinic wouldn't scan me, being less than 7 weeks, but I also had a horrible dragging feeling and, crucially, some left sided pain.
So they suggested I take myself to A&E to rule out an ectopic.

So, 11pm, off I trotted to the nearest A&E, absolutely certain it was over. The lovely gyne doctor examined me to find my cervix closed, then took pitty on me and performed a scan with a big fat warning about how we might not see anything.

Little bean was right there on the screen, heart beating beautiful, and next to a large SCH which was the cause of the bleed.

She's now three years old and the bleed had gone by my 12 week scan.

I have absolutely everything crossed for you on Friday and hope you get some answers. It's an awful place to be.

@Megaprest best of luck for today, keeping everything crossed for you x

Sadly no pregnancy in my womb and she said it looks as though my lining has thinned out. She also said she could see something in my ovary so has referred me to EPU for urgent appointment - just to rule out ectopic as still getting very strong positives. She said could just be a follicle but we will see when had further testing. Crappy morning but at least i can just focus on sorting out whatever is going on now and try to move on.

thanks everyone for your support has really helped me x

So sorry Megaprest. We were all wishing you a happier outcome. It sounds like a good thing you've had the scan and will be seen in the EPU sooner to get to the bottom of what's going on.

I'm sorry this has happened to you x

Another update - went to epu today and had a blood test done. HCG at 2454 so going to test again on Monday and see what is happening. She mentioned that if it stays around the 2000 mark or doesn’t really budge they will think about testing for ectopic. However they’ve also said that if it shows rising could still possibly be pregnant but earlier than we thought or if it’s dropping then most likely miscarriage

Hi everyone,

Another update!

Today I was called back into EPU to have internal scan. Same outcome - couldn’t see anything in womb and an area near my left ovary but she couldn’t determine what it was. She couldn’t see a sac or anything so told me it could possibly be ectopic or cysts but we’re just not sure. I’ve also got a tilted (retroverted?) uterus. I’ve had no ectopic symptoms so I’ve been sent home and got to repeat bloods tomorrow.

Has anyone experienced this before? I’m mentally preparing myself for it to be an ectopic but because everyone is so unsure it’s a horrible limbo to be in.

Oh @Megaprest I have no advice but I am thinking of you ♥️ I’m really really sorry you’re going through this x

Hi @Megaprest I'm really sorry to hear your update, I was feeling really hopeful for you.

My first pregnancy was ectopic although it was different to this situation as I had pain and brown spotting a couple of times which took me to the EPU. By the time it was discovered (7+4) it was already resolving itself and my HCG levels were down to under 500. They couldn't see anything in my womb but saw a mass by my ovary. It took a while to confirm this and the scans had to be sent elsewhere.

Because it was resolving itself and they didn't suspect a rupture they took a "wait and see" approach and I went in every 48 hours until my HCG returned to 0. It took a while actually as my HCG didn't fall as fast as they would hope.

I imagine they will continue to monitor your HCG and if it continues to go up I believe they can offer methotrexate to stop it growing.

I hope you get answers soon! Sorry again. I was devastated at the whole ordeal even though I didn't need any formal treatment. It took me a while to get over emotionally but we conceived again quickly and all was fine. Currently pregnant again and 15 weeks all ok so far x

Megaprest · 04/12/2024 09:33

@microwoods hi thank you for your comment, this is exactly my situation and now on wait and see. My Hcg is dropping slowly and having blood tests every 48 hours. I’ve dropped from 2454 and now at 600 a week and a bit later gonna take a few weeks I think and constantly on edge if I get any sensations down there.

@Megaprest it's such a mind fuck isn't it? You go into the EPU hoping you'll hear that your baby is ok, and shortly after diagnosis of ectopic you're hoping that the pregnancy "resolves itself".

You don't just have to process your pregnancy loss, but also worry about your own medical treatment, whether you'll need surgery, why it happened and if you can conceive again!

The good news is that in future pregnancies you'll be offered a scan at 6 weeks to check it's in the right place (if you want it).

I wish you all the luck in the world with future pregnancies if that's what you choose to pursue ❤️
