Could I be pregnant?

I am married and have a son that is now 2 so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if I was pregnant, we did want another baby, just not yet! I wasn't planning on having another baby for another year or so. We have just moved into our new home and we wanted to have some time to settle in the new place and save up some money. I am also going on a hen do abroad next year and will be a bridesmaid in August which is in Cyprus so I just feel like I needed to wait until after this wedding to start trying for a baby, seems like the worst time to be pregnant right now. I feel awful saying this as I know people have to try for a baby for ages and it can take them years, and here is me saying that I could be pregnant and I am worried about it and sounding selfish.

So I was last on my period on the 9th October and I haven't come on since, still waiting for my period to start! I was expecting to have my period a few days ago but I haven't. I did have unprotected sex on either the 5th or the 6th October but I didn't think it was possible to get pregnant so close to your next period but I am now starting to think that is very incorrect and you can probably get pregnant at anytime. I thought you could only get pregnant leading up to or on your ovulation dates which I was well passed. My nipples do feel very tender but then that could be a sign I am coming on my period. I have been having mild cramp pains for days as well, I am just so confused! I have been very ill with flu so I am wondering if this could have delayed my period at all? I know the obvious reason is to do a test but I am not sure it would show results this early on.
What does everyone think?

It's certainly possible you could be pregnant.
If your period is late then I would take a test now

LozC0411 · 15/11/2024 08:48

Yes, if you are late on your period then it is actually the best time to test, hope all goes ok OP x

If you’re late for a period then you can test yes.

You can only get pregnant when you’re ovulating because you need the egg, but you don’t technically have to have sex on ovulation day to make that happen, sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days and if you’re not testing ovulation then it’s possible you ovulated earlier or later than you thought x

If only there were cheap and reliable methods to know if you are pregnant or not...

Motherof1and2dogs · 15/11/2024 10:49

@MightyMichaela I did say in my post that I know I can do a test but I am not sure it would show so early on as positive

Are you not due on now though OP?

YaWeeFurryBastard · 15/11/2024 10:53

So you last had sex on 5/6 October and had your period 9th October? If you’ve had a period since you last had sex it’s highly unlikely you’re pregnant, however if your period is late take a test to be sure as clearly that’s the only way to reliably know.

Motherof1and2dogs · 15/11/2024 11:04

@YaWeeFurryBastard sorry I don't think I made it very clear on my post. So first day of last period was 9th October, had sex early last week, so only a few days before me coming on my period again. I have read that it's highly unlikely to get pregnant having sex so close to your next period. And I am not sure a test will show positive only a week later, but I am now about 5 days late

If you are pregnant you would defo get a positive by now... Only way to find out is by doing a test though

TheShellBeach · 15/11/2024 11:13

At five days late a test would be accurate.

MightyMichaela · 15/11/2024 14:26

It's perfectly possible to ovulate late, even if you are normally regular. So unless you tracked ovulation you don't know if you ovulated when you normally do, or later and then you had sex later in the cycle expecting it to be past ovulation but it wasn't.
If you are trying to prevent pregnancy you really need to track bbt and only have unprotected sex from three days after you have confirmed ovulation.
Hope that helps a bit!

OP here... just thought I would drop a message in case anyone else goes to reply but I am 100% pregnant. I took a test last night which showed positive, and ended up being 3+ weeks which I was not expecting! I was expecting it to be a week! Just goes to show to pull out method doesn't work and trying to have sex before or after your period doesn't stop you getting pregnant, I feel very stupid! But it's a blessing in disguise, although I wanted to wait until August next year, at least there will be a closer age gap between the two which is what I always wanted. Just means I won't be able to attend my best friends wedding in August :( I hope she will understand!
