Hi, this is all new to me and I need some guidance on early pregnancy please!
I am 11 days late for my period - my cycles are usually about 33 days long.
I did 5 early pregnancy tests this morning and they were all positive. My app worked out I was 6 weeks and 1 day pregnant.
I booked an early scan at a scan clinic and the woman didn’t even ask me how many weeks I thought I was or how long my cycles are.
She did an internal scan and she couldn’t see anything in my uterus. She said it looked like it had thickened but that is all.
She was quite unclear and said that she thinks it could be a miscarriage but I haven’t bled? Either that, or I’m too early for a scan.
I’m really confused because the tests are showing as positive so quickly so I definitely have the HCG hormone.

Based on the NHS due date predictor - I’m 5 weeks - but if I’m 5, would something have shown on the scan? Or if I’d miscarried would something have shown?
I tested again this afternoon and it’s still positive.

I understand in the next week or so I’ll either bleed and miscarry or the fetus will grow.

Just need some advice. Thanks!

Hi OP

This is one of the reasons why i don't personally think the private clinics should be doing scans this early, it's just a money maker. It doesn't offer any reassurance and actually causes more worry.

First of all, the apps are very much just a guide and it's not unusual to measure differently. They are based solely on your LMP and that is only accurate if you have an average 28 day cycle with ovulation on day 14 exactly - unless you physically track this then you won't know. I'm 20 weeks and my dates are 10 days behind what LMP said I should be because my cycles are longer than average and i ovulated late in my cycle.

Secondly, what you've described at 5 weeks sounds absolutely normal. At this stage it really is only a thickening of the walls of the uterus. Over the next week, you'd expect a gestational sac, yolk sac and fetal pole to assist appear.
At some point between 6 and 7 weeks, you'd hope to see an embryo and a flickering heartbeat.

The only thing that can tell you if this is going to be a viable pregnancy is time unfortunately. It's by far the hardest time in pregnancy as you really just have to wait and see

I agree with the PP, it's far too early to see anything on a scan. You seem to have long cycles so any progress is likely to be about a week behind what LMP would predict, which is nothing to worry about. If you are determined to get an early scan for reassurance I would wait until you are about 8 weeks by LMP, there should be something to see by then.
