Name change in pregnancy

Has anyone changed their surname by deed poll while pregnant. How easy was it?
I'm 24 weeks if that makes Any difference.
Was it easy going with the hospital and midwife?

If it's too difficult..would baby be able to be registered with a different surname to both me or DP?

We both have our fathers surname who we have no contact with since children so plan was for DP to change to his mothers surname and baby have the same as them however due to him buying a house he is unable to change his name until 28th Feb when house is built and completed but baby is due 2 days after! Therefore I would've changed my surname and baby would have that..

Thoughts , opinions , advice? Thanks :)

You can give your child any surname you wish.

When DD1 was born, we weren't married yet and got separated in different countries due to Covid. I had to register the birth without the fathers details initially but I was still able to register her name with her dad's surname - regardless of the fact he wasn't present and had a different surname to me.
Nobody, at any point, asked for any evidence or information about my (now) DH or questioned my name choice whatsoever.

I could have completely made up a name and they wouldn't have known (or cared).

Baby can have whatever name you like, nothing to do with yours. Ask your midwife if it's likely to be an issue if you change yours

Great thanks! I will speak to her next week when I see her. It would be nice for atleast 1 parent on the birth certificate to have the same surname as baby but if it's going to be a whole load of stress while pregnant we will just change one of ours once he's here!

You get a few weeks to register the baby so perhaps your partner would have his name changed by then?

If baby came at around 37 weeks it's highly unlikely it won't work out I think..hence changing mine to not have the stress and worry of how close things could be x
