Good afternoon ladies ,

So ladies on the 2nd of oct , I got my first positive pregnancy test .I don’t know when my LMP was and have PCOS . What is the best way to calculate how far along I am ? Would 6 weeks sound right ? I feel so stupid not knowing .

Does your area do self referral? If so, there should be a box or section somewhere on the online form to add extra information - pop in there about the PCOS and you are unsure about your dates, no recent period etc. They may offer you an early scan. Alternatively you could pay for a private early reassurance scan, and they will also give you an idea of dates - mine was around £70 I think. 6 weeks doesn't sound unreasonable to me given the circumstances.

Don't feel stupid at all - loads of us have PCOS and even if we had a LMP, ovulation could be any time. With DD1 i only knew as I was having fertility treatment. With DD2, I ovulated on something like day 30? So when I had my early scan, it put me 2 weeks different to what I was expecting.

@CrispAppleStrudels thank you for your advise . I will see if I can get a referral to the local early pregnancy unit x

Not stupid at all, loads of reasons not to be sure! I had no idea with DD as I’d not had my cycle back, I was still BF DS.

How strong was the test line on 2nd October? Had you done any that were negative in the days before? If it was a faint-ish line then you were probably around 10-12 DPO. That would mean ovulation around 21st/22nd Sept, and that’s assumed to be day 14 of your cycle so the first day would be 7th/8th.

That means you’re at least 7 weeks, possibly more if the test was strong. A scan should definitely show heartbeat and give you an accurate date, but EPU are unlikely to see you without a medical reason like spotting/bleeding. When registering with maternity services you can just give your best guess and they’ll date you properly with a scan at around 12 weeks. We opted for a private scan to get an idea as we were a bit clueless 😂

Congratulations! x

@Emmzo
Thank you for your response . It was a strong line on the 2nd of oct . I have taken loads of tests , different brands since then all positive . I have had cramps now and then ,but no bleeding or spotting.To be honest I feel the person doing the scan (a private one ) was a little clueless, as I couldn’t tell her when my LMP was . She barely looked for a heartbeat , it felt very rushed . Said everything was normal. I am going to try and get a private scan somewhere else next week , I think .

Thank you x
