missing first day of work due to emergency scan

I am meant to be starting a new job tomorrow. Yesterday after weeks of abdominal pain I took a positive pregnancy test. I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago so combined with the pain, this is alarming and I urgently need to rule out another ectopic.

My ultrasound will either be today or tomorrow. I am really hoping it's today, but there's a serious chance I will have to miss my first day of work, especially as I'm at my partner's parent's house and being treated out the area. The doctors have been clear I really need to have this scan and should not leave before then (although they are hopeful it is a successful pregnancy as I don't have many symptoms)

What on earth should I tell my manager for tomorrow? I feel like "medical appointment" doesn't really cut it for my first day, but equally it's hard to say "emergency scan" without causing alarm and saying why. I wouldn't want to tell my new job about the pregnancy until later on, especially on my first day. Does anyone have any ideas and excuses of what I could say?

Hopefully it will just be the one day if the ultrasound goes well so send best wishes 💐

Can you just say you have an emergency hospital appointment? They might want more info but they can't insist as your medical info is private. You can just say that you don't know what is wrong as that's why you're having the appointment. Once you've had it, you will know what is going on and then work out what to say from there.

Good luck xx

Less information is more I think here if you have to miss it just say you had a medical emergency don't say it's an appointment as that just sounds like something you could rearrange

Although scan was positive, sadly have been admitted for up to a week for observations as baby was too small to confirm pregnancy. For future people reading this thread, I told my job I had been admitted for abdominal cramps and need to be kept in for obs, without mentioning pregnant
