Hunger

I'm approx 4-6 weeks pregnant as the midwife thinks it's 6 weeks but I think it's 4 weeks.

Nonetheless, just wondering if neverending hunger during this time is normal or is there something wrong with me?

Is there a way I can satiate my hunger at all? I keep eating and even when I'm full up. I feel like my belly has this hunger feeling of some sort.

Any ideas please? Would appreciate any advice on this as it's driving me nuts.

Thanks
Karen.

I had this in my first pregnancy till around 10 weeks.
Second pregnancy is the opposite, I've completely lost my appetite and, when I do eat, I get really nauseous

Lots of protein

I feel you, nearly 7 weeks and starving all the time! It's almost 3am and I'm wondering if I should get up and eat but I'm so tired 😂

@TheBirdintheCave

So it doesn't mean it's a boy or a girl when hungry it seems.

The hunger has calmed down a little but not all the way.

I wonder why some of us have that hunger in the later weeks and some in the earlier weeks.

Most women have said they were hungry with boys but some say with girls too. I don't either sex as I'm grateful for conceiving in the first place.

@Newsenmum

I can imagine, growing a human is no joke let alone this placenta.

@MollyRover

That's amazing 4 months? I think it'd take me perhaps a whole year the way I've been eating 🙈

I was the same, listen to your body (unless it's demanding haribo and crisps!), I craved eggs and meat and I figured I just needed these things nutritionally.

Make sure you take your pregnancy vitamins and it'll soon pass 🥰

@sel2223

10 weeks of that hunger? That's awful but I suppose if it happens to us, we just gotta put up with it and do what we can with food.

Nausea is the worst

Two girls here and ravenous up to about 16 weeks both times. And nauseous like never before. I too ate mints and crystallised ginger to try to stave off the nausea (which was so bad with DD2 that I asked my midwife about a termination when feeling desperate ‐she thankfully put me straight).
No tips for eating less, I think you just have to roll with it as it seems a deeply primal need ‐I think the function of the nausea is to ensure you follow the hunger impulse thus ingesting the amount of energy your body needs (or else! kind of thing). The weight just melted off though as I was breastfeeding.
Best of luck and welcome to MN, OP.

@KarenMon surprisingly not too consciously either! I breastfed so had to eat a lot of protein, I walked everywhere with baby so that helped. I did walk during pregnancy too, and swam once or twice a week.

I don’t think it’s necessarily anything to do with sex - that’s just how it happened to work out for me!

Just listen to your body, I’d say. I got very fed up with patronising NHS advice reminding you not to eat for two and that apparently you don’t need extra calories until later. He/we definitely needed all of that food as I put on almost no weight until the second trimester, when the hunger calmed down a bit. I was hungry the whole pregnancy but not the same insatiable hunger (and concurrent nausea) as at the beginning.
