TTC and Job hunting

Im 40 and have sadly had two miscarriages. Im now looking for a new job as I’ll be made redundant in four months time with my current role. If I’m offered a new job I’ll have to give three months notice in my job and not sure if I’ll panic trying to wait until next year to TTC. Any advice from older mums to give me hope? Or should I TTC now and if I’m offered a job soon I may be pregnant before I join

You are 40. Don't delay trying to conceive

You might only have five good cycles left for all you know (hopefully many more but you can never know). Do not waste them!
It's fine to start a new job when already pregnant. You get slightly less stat mat pay - look up mat pay Vs mat allowance - if you change jobs whilst already pregnant, but unless you are a higher than average earner the difference will be in the region of £1000 in total. Up to you whether that's worth risking your fertility for.

Given your age, you need to keep TTC

I wouldn't delay, you have no idea how long this might take.

I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant at 41 (will be 42 on due date) and we're planning to completely relocate in the next couple of months (the moving was planned prior to falling pregnant). It's put a bit of a spanner in the works but after 4 years waiting for a BFP it is what it is and we'll make it work!

I wouldn't delay either.
Maybe give your finances a overhaul now so you have as much time to build a buffer to help you through mat leave if you don't qualify for enhanced maternity leave packages.

Thank you everyone x

Hello,

I agree with the other posters, keep TTC.

I was in a similar position (apart from redundancy). I was looking for a new job at 41 and TTC. I found out I was pregnant between interviews, accepted the job at 10 weeks pregnant and told my new company after the 12 week scan (optional to tell them, but I felt like it was the right thing to do). I had a 3 month notice period at my job so started the new job and worked for 3 months before going off on maternity leave.

As others have mentioned, you’re unlikely to be eligible for SMP so would have to get Maternity Allowance. I was lucky in that my new company offered me a discretionary payment which was amazing of them. It’s a large company so don’t know if others could offer the same.

Best of luck for both!
