Getting pregnant after miscarriage

Hey everyone,
My partner and I recently went through a miscarriage 2 weeks ago and are feeling good about trying again. When I called the EPU they said to wait until after I've had my first period before trying again, however all of the information online I've seen suggests this is just to help with dates? Is there any risk of us trying before then? I'm pretty sure I'm ovulating now and want to try but just wanted to check it was safe 😊

Thank youuuu xx

Sorry for your recent loss OP.
I had a miscarriage 5 weeks ago too and whilst I've waited until I have my period ( I haven't yet) they did tell me I could start trying straight away & waiting for a period was just for dating.

I am sorry for your loss. I had surgical management for miscarriage 3weeks 3days ago.
I had a negative PG test a few days ago and a positive LH test today so hoping to ovulate soon.
they told me I could try straight away but ideally after a negative PG test for dates. I am nearly 40 and didn’t want to feel like I had wasted a cycle. I think if you feel ready to TTC then there is no reason you shouldn’t.
hope you are ok, I have been really down but the positive LH test has made me focus again xxxc

I had a miscarriage in August. I was told it's convenient to wait for a first period but not essential. It is also preferable that you have had a negative pregnancy test before trying too, as it is useful to know if the positive pregnancy test relates to a new pregnancy or means that your HCG levels are still elevated from the previous pregnancy. We mostly waited, partly because I needed some time for feel up to intimacy but I think we did dtd once whilst my HCG levels were still coming down and more regularly since getting my negative pregnancy test at about 3 weeks post miscarriage.

Sorry for your loss

We did wait until I'd had my first period just to give my body and emotions a break

But if you feel like you're ready to try straight away I don't think there's any real reason not to apart from dates. But dating scans are very accurate anyway x

It’s up to you. I didn’t wait and unfortunately had another miscarriage straight after, but I don’t believe it was related.

We waited a couple of months and I’m pleased we did. I couldn’t have coped with the anxiety of another pregnancy right away. Having a couple of normal periods made me reassured my body was working ok.

I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage, I didn't wait after my second and conceived the next cycle without a period in between. All went fine with that pregnancy.

I'm really sorry. I had a miscarriage in May and was advised the same. As I understand it is to do with ease of dating the pregnancy, not because there is any increased risk. Because your cycle can be a bit up in the air and you might not have a period for 6-8 weeks or longer, if you get pregnant before you have a period it can be hard to know how far along you are. It's not the end of the world though, plenty of people do. I became pregnant the first cycle after my first bleed post miscarriage and am now 15 weeks with all going well. There is hope. You're a bit less likely to have another miscarriage if you conceive within the first 6 months of one as well interestingly. Good luck.

Sorry for your loss! We started trying right away and didn’t have a period before falling pregnant again so go for it!

Have you confirmed that the hormones have gone out of your system? Have you had a negative test? I didn’t test negative after mine for nearly 4 weeks. I ask because another reason they ask to wait is that if there is retained product they have missed then they can’t be certain that your new pregnancy isn't still part of the previous one..

Hey, yes I have negative tests now and all bleeding and cramping have come to an end 😊
