Second pregnancy - anyone else had this with first born?

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant with our second baby, DD1 is 4. We haven't told her about the baby yet as want to get the NIPT results back first (should be this week) although kids these days are eerily perceptive! A few nights ago she started rubbing my belly then lay head on my tummy and asked if there was a baby in my tummy! (Before I could respond she answered herself saying 'yes, there is, I can hear it!).

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has noticed any changes or new behaviours with their first born since falling pregnant?

For example, my 4 year old was breastfed till 12 months but has never particularly acknowledged my boobs since then. Suddenly she is absolutely obsessed with them! Pulling my shirt down every 5 minutes, wiggling them, trying to lick my nipples, pretending to drink from them! She has never ever done this before.

Another example is baby talk! Again, she's never done this until the last few weeks. Her speech is excellent (she's fluent in 2 languages), suddenly she keeps going into this really exaggerated baby talk mode whenever we are together.

She's fully toilet trained day and night but suddenly she doesn't want to use the toilet anymore and has gone back to the potty.

I'm not concerned by any of this, she's fine and doesn't do this when she's with anyone else other than me, I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this and if it's to do with the pregnancy or just coincidence?

(I've tried to hide any sickness from her and not discuss the baby when she's around....and she's had plenty of one of one time / family time. I can't think of any obvious changes to her life or routine etc)

My 4 year old has regressed slightly but she has also just started school so think it’s probably connected to that as well! I’m 32 weeks, she’s very excited about the baby, but we’ve had a lot of “I cant do it myself” and silly behaviour and talking about poo etc. I imagine they do feel a bit pushed out once they realise what’s happening but could also just be a phase.

Ah that's really interesting....we've also had that with wanting help to do things like brushing teeth when she's previously been super independent and wanted to do every single thing by herself!

Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way

My three year old straight up asked me at ten weeks if I had a baby in my belly. I asked her why she thought that and she said some mummies do … I sort of changed the topic by explaining babies aren’t actually in tummies but in the uterus.

since then she’s been really passively aggressively walking around with her tummy puffed out staring at mine going ‘ well i have a baby in my uterus ….’ And is really obsessed with the idea of the baby ‘ jumping out of the vagina’ when the time comes - which is the part I’m trying not to think about on several times a day basis !!

my little one has started wanting to nurse more but then we never properly stopped (I had to take some strong antibiotics and had to stop while I was on them and sort of assumed she’d weaned during that time because she stopped asking but this week has started again.

really hoping I get the all clear on the combined screening letter soon so I can tell her (and I can breathe a bit!) …
