We'd like to keep baby number two our little secret for as long as possible ( not for any particular reason other than my family makes a massive fuss over new babies!) so I'm wondering how long I can get away with not telling anyone before I'll show (literally only 4 weeks today).

I know everyone is different but in your case, how long do you think you could have gotten away with not telling anyone about baby number 2?

I swear, I've looked pregnant since 6 weeks!
I realise it's mostly bloat at this stage but I've had it far worse than I did in my first pregnancy and I've got a prominent 'bump' from morning to night.
Now over 10 weeks and it's very, very hard to hide.

The advantage in the UK is that the weather is cooler so you can probably layer up and buy more time where i live overseas where it is very hot so can't really hide it in summer clothes!

First born I didn't look pregnant at all till 3rd trimester!

moleeye · 05/09/2024 05:11

9 weeks with #2

22 weeks with #1!

PolePrince55 · 05/09/2024 05:12

I got baby bloat from 6 weeks but settled around 12/14.
They said it wasn't noticeable to others x

Babyenroute · 05/09/2024 06:38

I didn't tell work until 17 weeks and hid it fine! My first baby was small though so that may have made a difference

sleepandcoffee · 05/09/2024 06:42

I was very swollen from 8 weeks , by the time I had my scan at 13 weeks I was utterly convinced it was twins because I looked closer to 20 weeks in my first pregnancy!

herewegoagain123456 · 05/09/2024 06:56

I'm on my 3rd, 15+5 weeks now, still nobody knows or has guessed

User0311 · 05/09/2024 07:00

About 18 weeks!
22 weeks with my first

OurChristmasMiracle · 05/09/2024 07:06

Had a bump at 7 weeks so had to wear lose clothing. By 12 weeks there was no hiding him

WhatMe123 · 05/09/2024 07:08

So much earlier. Can't remember exactly but there's photos of me at 17 weeks and I look like I did at about 6 months with ny first 😂 you don't get overall bigger it just gets bigger quicker 🙈

InsideOut91 · 05/09/2024 10:14

Early, 6/7 weeks! I was struggling to hide it until 12 weeks. I had a really big bump with both pregnancies though.

elb1504 · 05/09/2024 10:38

I was very bloated but easy enough to cover up to start with.

I'm now 19 weeks and have quite an obvious bump but can still get away with not looking pregnant with oversized tshirts and jumpers just about. Now cooler weather is coming it is much easier to cover up.

SErunner · 05/09/2024 13:37

I'm bloody ginormous this time round compared to first. Particularly the end of the day when I look how I did around 20 weeks first time (currently 12)! It's a bit concerning to be quite honest 😂 I wouldn't bank on hiding it long!

SurpriseTwinPregnancy · 05/09/2024 13:41

I’m 18 weeks with twins (third pregnancy) and in certain clothes you can’t tell. I am a bit fat though, so your natural body shape will impact. Having said that, my very slim friend is 30 weeks with her third and only recently started to look pregnant. So as you say, everyone and every pregnancy is different.

Tdcp · 05/09/2024 13:47

I was big at 5 weeks, it went down (bloating..) about 7 weeks but at 11 weeks I have a proper baby belly.

soymilknosugar · 06/09/2024 06:55

10 ish weeks

annlee3817 · 06/09/2024 07:37

Had to tell my boss at 7 weeks due to bad nausea, but otherwise I kept it quiet from work until 20 weeks, just wore long cardigans and scarves or loose fitting clothes, I was probably showing from around 14 weeks but it was the same with DD1.

showersandflowers · 06/09/2024 13:17

I guess it depends on body type? I'm a size 12 but 6 foot tall and this meant I did t show till quite late on first time round (apparently the baby had more room to spread out). I think I'd be happy to hide it until at least 20 weeks this time around (managed until 33 weeks last time ... but that was in the pandemic, and hardly saw people at all).

Early. Like stupid early! 7 weeks or so? I expect that was some degree of bloating but I looked a noticeably different shape nonetheless. I’m now 13 weeks and have a proper baby bump. I’m tall with a long torso… it doesn’t seem to have helped 😂

IMBCRound2 · 06/09/2024 13:30

It was definitely bloat the first few weeks but by 10 weeks there’s absolutely no hiding it. I’m a size six and carry literally all my weight on my bum so my stomach is usually flat so it was incredibly obvious once the bloat started at 5 weeks.

im quite anxious about people knowing before all the all clear for scans and tests but even in super baggy clothes it’s obvious- with my first I hid it until I was nearly 30 weeks (admittedly I carried small)

Even my three year old has been asking if I have a baby in my tummy so clearly I’m doing a great job of concealing it .

Dyra · 06/09/2024 14:41

I hate to say it, but pretty much immediately.

I'm obese, and had a booking BMI of 38, but it was definitely not fat. I know it was bloat, but as the bloat went down, the bump came out. I wanted to keep it secret until after the 12 week scan, but my Mum asked me to my face if I was pregnant (never done that before) and I wasn't about to lie.

MrsB2019x · 06/09/2024 19:31

My manager told me at 8 weeks “bloody hell looks like you’re having twins” 🙃
So, early!
