Pregnacare vitamins always make me sicker

I need the vitamins but I’m really struggling. I’m trying all types of vitamins currently. I tried using The Folic acid , CLM and Vitamin d + Omega 3 but felt horrible so I stopped taking it. I then started taking just folic acid and I wasn’t feeling the best that night. I had horrible heart burn and I felt sick with no explanation. Now I’m taking original pregnacare with Iron, Zinc, vit D, & B12 + folic acid (one tablet) now for the first time I found myself feeling like I need to be sitting by the toilet just in case I puke up my guts. I’ve only felt terrible when I take any vitamins. I don’t know what to do or if I’m the only one but I don’t know if I can take the vitamins if it’s going to make me feel this sick. I want to for my baby but I feel like I’m 18 and I don’t even need to take it I’m sure I’m young enough to not be lacking any vitamins enough to make me need all these pills. I feel awful right now. Am I the only one that’s experiencing sickness because of the vitamins rather than pregnancy?

I never took iron as I thought it's not advised? Also iron is hard on the stomach so maybe drop that one?

Folic acid and vitamin D I believe are the priorities. 😊

Folic acid is the main reason I’m sick every pill I take includes it and I always feel sick. If I take just a b8 tablet though I feel fine

Aww drats that's difficult 🥺. It's definitely important for the spine etc.
I wonder why it's that one for you

I’m thinking my body isn’t developed enough to tolerate it maybe I am still young (18) and it’s possibly a lot to take in suddenly.

Pregnancy vitamins made me feel nauseas too, you’re not alone. Some things that helped for me was to take them in the evening, just after food and with a cold drink. Then avoid hot drinks for at least an hour. I also tried different brands and if I remember correctly, pregnacare were the worst for me, Asda own brand were much better. (Which is ridiculous because they all contain pretty much the same thing!)

Also remember that before 13 weeks, folic acid will help the baby develop so it is important to take until then, but after 13 weeks, as long as you are otherwise healthy, you’re okay not to take it. A healthy diet should provide you with the vitamins you need (maybe continue with vitamin D though once we get into the darker, less sunny months).

I got the Bassetts chewy pregnancy vitamins as I found them easier than taking tablets:

There's no way of knowing for sure that it's the vitamins making you sick. Nausea, sickness and heartburn are all common pregnancy symptoms and can come and go, change in intensity from day to day, week to week etc.

I had sickness in my first pregnancy and convinced myself it was worse because of taking pregnacare vitamins.
This pregnancy I only took a test after i was already being sick and not on any vitamins so couldn't blame them - tried several other brands of vitamins instead of pregnacare but the sickness is much worse this pregnancy and I've had to get some anti sickness tablets.

I don't think age is relevant - I'm 41.

Also think we hear more about pregnacare just because it's the most widely used, don't think it's unique to them.

Pregnacare always made me feel horrific! Took ages to realise with my first pregnancy. Knew straight away in my second (I had forgotten and started to take them again as you get a free sample of them!)

I switched to seven seas (with ginger) and they were fine! I know you can a,so switc to just taking folic acid and just make sure your diet is healthy. Up to you!

I have HG and all the vitamins made me so so much worse. I fought on and took folic acid and pregnacare until the 2nd trimester and then stopped as soon as I could. Even when they put me on aspirin at 12 weeks, it made me more sick and I decided against taking it.

Currently 37+2 now, still have HG badly, diet is absolutely awful, I get zero vitamins from food as I can barely eat its just all beige carbs. But we are both fine so far

I had the same situation with my first pregnancy too, he was born fine, no issues with either of us so I wouldn't be too harsh on yourself taking them!

The pregnancare tablets always made my sickness worse too. I found taking just folic acid and swigging the liquid pregnancare when I felt I could stomach it was all I could manage.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 02/09/2024 09:06

I found any pregnancy tablet with the brown coating made me feel really ill. I tried purple ones, I think they were seven seas maybe? And they didn't make me ill at all. No idea why or what is in the coating!

Pregnacare have reputation for this! It could be worth trying different brands. You’ll likely find one that doesn’t affect you at all, or at least as much.

I know it’s the vitamins because if I don’t take them I’m completely fine and don’t feel sick until nighttime when I have to try eat.

I completely agree. I get on much better with gummies.

I have the my protein pregnancy gummies. Been taking them whilst trying to conceive and still taking them now I'm pregnant.

Peonies12 · 02/09/2024 10:11

I only took folic acid and Vit D in first trimester, the tiny tablets. I took them just before going to sleep. I couldn't take Pregnacare, the tablets made me feel so sick.

anedotalreassurance · 02/09/2024 13:26

The nurses told me pregnacare makes you sick. I only took Folic and Vit D from the beginning and never had any sickness.

cherrybl0ssom5 · 02/09/2024 15:53

pregnacare doesn’t agree with everybody, made me feel so much more nauseous & i’ve heard the same from other people. my midwife had me switch to just folic and vit d & i felt significantly better, still nauseous though so added B6 which also helped

Lemonademoney · 02/09/2024 15:55

Pregnacare made me feel horribly nauseous I ended up taking a seven seas pregnancy vitamin which I seemed to do a lot better with
