Sudden stress and effect on baby

I am just over 12 weeks with a very long awaited pregnancy after many years trying and several losses. My beloved cat died today - I had to make a difficult decision to put him to sleep. Although I did my best to stay calm I was naturally upset as he died and after it happened. I am worried about whether this could cause a miscarriage or hurt the baby in any way. I know the isn’t anything I can do now, but has anyone been through anything similar?

Baby will be fine. Prolonged very severe stress can lead to issues, but that will be ok. And sorry about your cat - it's hideous losing a pet.

So sorry about your cat, OP. But please try not to worry about your baby.
I had chronic stress during my first pregnancy, so not the sudden terrible upset you’re going through, but extreme stress nonetheless (later diagnosed with PTSD). It didn’t appear to have any effect on my pregnancy/baby. That DC turned out to be quite an unsettled baby, but I suspect that was mainly for unrelated reasons.
Best of luck x

Thank you both, that is reassuring. I am trying not to stress about being stressed! I googled and scared myself but hearing from you is helpful.
