When did you have your baby shower?

When did you have your baby shower/last big gathering with friends? I want to organise drinks with our friends (an informal baby shower) for when I will be 34 weeks but my partner wants it to be later (when I will be 35 or 36 weeks). I’m worried that I will be too tired/big to enjoy it or risk baby having arrived early.

There is probably no ideal time, but interested to hear other people’s experiences.

I’m having some friends stay for weekend at 37 weeks; not having a baby shower
though, I’m too paranoid after previous miscarriages

Most people I know have them after 36 weeks, mind my cousin had hers planned for 37 weeks and went into spontaneous labour that morning!

Personally I didn't have a baby shower with my first and won't be having a baby shower with my second. Years ago I went to one and the baby ended up being stillborn less than 2 weeks later so I can't personally celebrate a baby until they are here safely. I'm going to have a low key 'meet the baby' once I'm recovered instead.

I think baby showers are bad luck and I can't get over the stupid superstitious thought. I just feel like buying things for a baby before it's born is courting trouble.
