Background:
- At the time of this post, i am just over 11 weeks pregnant. Currently, only my husband and i know as we are waiting until sometime after our 12 scan ( scan is when I’m 13 weeks).
- Over the last two years, I have put on a lot of weight going from Uk 12 to 16, mainly due to stress. E.g.in 10 months i bought a house, started my 2years masters, got married and had a missed miscarriage.
- During the same two years my mum has started her fitness Journey.
- Its important to note that I come from a Caribbean household and talking about weight is very normal. E.g. Anytime, I am around my family my mum will make comments about me needed to lose weight. Particularly when I eating - it does not matter if I am eating healthy or not. Or I might get a comment about my weight via FaceTime.
- I have had comments from my Mum,Dad and sister in weeks or so. & I am sure other family member would have something to say but i haven’t seen them.
I have never been happy about my weight so as you can imagine, these comments are emotionally deflating sometimes. I am also in the awkward stage of pregnancy where i am hungry all the time, gaining weight, and out of breath from small tasks.
Question:
Has anyone been in a similar situation and how did you navigate comments about weight around your family?
