Another ource of protein

I am 6 weeks and 2/3 days. My loss of appetite has gotten worse. I used to love greek yogurt however now I just don't want to eat anything. At the moment, I find protein smoothie (I ordered it from the shop) tolerable.
Do you have recommendations for another source of protein ?

I started taking ready made protein shakes as I wasn’t eating!

its tough, is there nothing you fancy eating?

Protein wise, I find hot instant soya milk drink tolerable. Eating an egg was fine for me two days ago and I will try and see if I can eat one today. I am not sure about tofu.
Do you find protein powder useful? It is really hard because I used to love eating and delicious food made me happy.

Hi OP, I'm not pregnant, but recently had surgery that made me feel very sick afterwards. I ate edemame beans which are v high in protein.

Twinkletwinklelil · 28/08/2024 15:20

@LucyCL yes I found the protein powder helped when I couldn’t eat.
im like you, love my food, love cooking nice stuff. It’s been a tough pregnancy!!
are you vegetarian? Try lentil soups?

Peonies12 · 28/08/2024 16:43

I really wouldn't worry, I basically ate only cereal from weeks 4-13 and baby and me are now very healthy! protein powder is really not good, it's so full of chemicals.

longdistanceclaraclara · 28/08/2024 18:06

Agree with @Peonies12 just eat what you fancy if you can. I wouldn't start on protein powder, there is really no need.

LucyCL · 28/08/2024 18:12

@Twinkletwinklelil I am sorry to hear that you are also feeling bad during your pregnancy. How many weeks are you? Although I am not vegetarian, I do like lentil soups!!
@Imalongtimepostingmum I do like peas so I will have a go at edamame!
@Peonies12 I am really glad that you and your baby are very healthy! I am also surprised to hear you only relied on cereal for the whole trimester 1 😮... I have no idea what will become of me. At the moment, I live on kiwis, oranges and brioche bread. Occasionally I eat one or two cherry tomatoes to remind me of how delicious food used to be.
@longdistanceclaraclara Interesting. I did read embryo at this stage needed protein and that is why I was worried that my protein intake was not enough.

I was very nauseous for the first trimester and all I could really tolerate was white fish truth be told fish and chips which I made at home it's the only thing that enticed me to eat

Twinkletwinklelil · 28/08/2024 20:33

@LucyCL im 26 weeks now.
how about wings? Or boneless stuff?
curries, protein in soups like ramen/pho?

Twinkletwinklelil · 28/08/2024 20:34

Oh and chickpeas!

BeLemonQuoter · 29/08/2024 08:03

Beans, lentil, peas, chickpea, tofu, soy milk, hummus, peanut, any dairy, egg, any fish, any meat.
Most food (veges too) contains protein in some degree and in modern diet protein deficiency is rare.

Borgonzola · 29/08/2024 08:06

I'm eating a lot of peanut butter on toast. And almonds.

MavisPennies · 29/08/2024 08:23

The foetus will take protein from you whether you eat it or not they are (adorable, cute) efficient parasites.
Congrats on your pregnancy! I'd second edemame beans, other pulses, peas etc.
Also if you eat meat what about cooked chicken breast - that's quite bland.
I spent the whole first trimester eating only french sticks, cream cheese, tomatoes and melon with DC2 I remember the constant nausea well.

LucyCL · 29/08/2024 13:20

Thank you everyone! I tried salted edamame and agedashi tofu yesterday which worked. Unfortunately today I started to have waves of nausea and all I can think of is refreshing water melon and frozen grapes. I will try some of the food you mentioned and it is going to be trial and error😔

I lived on tinned peaches when I was pregnant with my daughter. I had sickness in the first and third trimesters.

I wouldn't fret about a balanced diet and just focus on foods that you can tolerate especially in those early days of the pregnancy. Chances are once you are in the 2nd trimester you will be in a better position to have a balanced diet.
