IVF Medication - Urgent Advice Needed

Hi again,

I'm coming on here for advice as I'm hitting a bit of a brick wall.

My wife is approx 5 weeks pregnant after successful embryo transfer.

She currently takes Cyclogest pessaries 400mg and Progynova 2mg x 5 daily.

Last Thursday we notified the nurses that we had 6 days meds remaining. They emailed us on Friday to confirm top up would be delivered today (Aug 27th). However we didn't receive any notice from the pharmacy firm they use, which we normally do. I called the pharmacy firm (Pharmacy2u) and they have no record of the prescription or order!

I've emailed the nurses and called the front desk - but this is merely an off site admin centre - and all they can do is email the nurses.

We will run out tomorrow and I havent heard from the nurses and I doubt they can get us meds tomorrow.

I've called 111 and visited my health centre and nobody has a solution.

I'm hoping we hear from the nurses today but do you have any suggestions on what to do in this situation? Surely there must be a way to get emergency prescription to tie us over while we wait for more meds?

I'm worried we'll run out and then missing her dose might affect the pregnancy.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Hi @superkiff what type of cycle was this (e.g. fresh, medicated FET, natural FET)?

superkiff · 27/08/2024 14:09

Hi it was medicated FET I believe

The clinic usually has a supply of them? I got medication direct from them in an emergency.

We live 3 hours from the hospital. I mean that sounds like a last resort but thank you! It's Guy's hospital.

We had same day courier delivery from the pharmacy when we had an issue. So as long as you speak to them today it should be fine I think. (Unless you are a huge distance away).

May be worth ringing round local pharmacies to you to see if anyone has it in stock so then the nurses can send the prescription there if easier.

@superkiff Ok, with medicated FET I would be more cautious than if it was a natural FET for example (where there would still be natural hormonal support). I've had to do a drive to my fertility clinic to pick up meds in an emergency (more expensive) so they do sometimes have meds on site. Be prepared that you might get a 'private prescription' charge from your clinic if you decide to get a prescription to fill yourself (at my clinic it was something stupid like £250!). I've heard Asda is often a good place, and the meds you need should be readily available. At a pinch, you could try calling your local EPU (early pregnancy unit) and see if they can help? Hopefully you can find a way of getting it sorted.

If your wife skips 1 days of meds, I think it would be unlikely to cause too much of an impact, but I understand the worry

Good news have managed to sort delivery for tomorrow. What a day!
