New baby and toddler with a cold

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice.

I am due to have my section in a few days and toddler currently has had a bit of a cold since Sunday. Feels warm to touch and sniffly nose (not snotty yet but I'm sure that will come!)

Should I try and keep toddler away from baby until the cold has passed? For example don't bring toddler in to the hospital to visit and hope that by the time baby comes home toddlers cold has passed or should I just carry on as normal? Not sure what's the best thing to do. Just typical as toddler hasn't had a cold all summer!!

Thanks in advance

If it were me I probably would avoid bringing the toddler into hospital to visit the new baby yes.

If new baby gets unwell you could end up staying in hospital a lot longer

If toddler is ill, ie has a temperature then they shouldn't be coming to the hospital for the sake of all the patients. Getting over a cold with a bit of a runny nose still is fine. In the future you won't be able to protect your newborn from coughs and colds but they will get some protection through your breast milk.

Definitely don’t bring toddler to the hospital if they have a cold. Hopefully they’ll be better once you come home with baby.

Are you planning to breastfeed? That can help avoid the baby catching bugs.

I wouldn't bring anybody with a bug into a hospital, I'm afraid. There might even be an official policy about it. Most c sections are still only a day or so in hospital if straightforward, aren't they?

She doesn't have a temperature or a runny nose just sounds a bit snuffly and feels a bit warmer to touch but is fine within herself. It started on Sunday so I'm hoping by Thurs/Fri she'll be ok! If she's not 100% she can just meet the baby once home rather than in the hospital.

I'm planning to breastfeed so hopefully baby won't pick anything up from her once home 🤞 I thought I'd be more relaxed the second time round but never factored in toddlers and the constant bugs 😬
