30 weeks - hip pain and restless legs

I'm 30 weeks and in the last few weeks pregnancy has suddenly hit me! I've been really fortunate with my health and symptoms so far but now I've got a couple of things really getting to me.

My hips. I presume this is SPD type pain? They often feel like they are on fire. I spend most of my day sitting down - commuting by car, then at my desk. I've bought a birthing ball but can't take that to work! I've also got a BB Hug Me pregnancy pillow that I try to sleep with between my knees but it doesn't feel like I get much relief from the sore hips. I used to be able to walk 5-10k no problem but I'm really slowing down and find any sort of hill difficult.

Restless legs. In the evening I start to get very uncomfortable legs, to the point I go to bed, but then they irritate me until I fall asleep. It's such a bizarre feeling that I can't really explain, they are just uncomfortable!

Any advice or is this it for the next 10 weeks?! I should add I'm going to pregnancy yoga and I tried swimming last week which was lovely to going to try and go a couple of times a week.

I was advised to use magnesium for restless legs - I had a spray which was a funny texture, but it really helped so I stuck with it. Sorry - it’s crap!

Hi @QueenOfWeeds

Well after debating buying a magnesium spray on Amazon yesterday, I saw the same brand in Home Bargains last night so I bought a bottle and tried it. My legs weren't as sore last night, I think it's worse when I have been standing a lot in the day. But I used the spray anyway and had quite a good sleep so it's promising!

Oh good! Hope someone else comes along with suggestions for hip pain.

31 weeks here and you have my sympathy, restless legs are awful!! Been taking a small magnesium supplement before bed which has helped and then I have magnesium gel too. Also trying bananas before bed as I read that potassium can help. I definitely have it worse when my legs are tired from walking/standing too much. Had it in my first pregnancy too, although it was much worse then so just glad it’s not as bad!

Unless your yoga is run by a physio, it probably isn't helping. Yoga makes you stretchy, your ligaments are already super stretchy. You don't have to suffer with PGP, but you do need to seek medical help. If you can afford a private physio, do it. Not only will it help now, it will help well beyond pregnancy too. Make sure you get a physio who specifically deal with pregnancy health.
Restless legs is magnesium and tiredness related. You can make sure you are getting plenty of magnesium in your diet, and get to bed earlier, before it starts.

You absolutely can take your ball to work! I recommend it if you're sitting down that long!

I had restless legs and insomnia from 30 weeks to 32 and it's gone now, so I hope it will pass for you too! I usually found after hours of tossing and turning, going and having a hot shower would sort it.

Magnesium orally or epsom bath salts before bed have a good soak.

SPD looooooads of YT exercises I did some and mine improved after 2 days. Most Maternity units will have a pelvic floor Physio they can refer you to. So I would advise you ask for a referral.
They can give / suggest belts.

Mine was awful it was pike a grinding pain. Tips walking - small steps keep legs as close together as possible. Go up steps side ways. Think mermaid and keep legs togetger when moving in bed and getting our the car etc.

I am also 30 weeks and suddenly dealing with hip pain overnight. I had a much better night yesterday after I both had my pregnancy pillow between my legs and an extra normal pillow under my calves/feet to ensure that my entire top leg was in line (I.e: my foot wasn't lower than the rest of my leg).

I just keep telling myself we're in the final stretch!!!
